Felepita M. Barela, 98, Chimayo, died Thursday Feb. 12, 2009. A lifelong resident of Chimayo, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, picking piñon and making special blankets for family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Feladelfio, five years ago, parents Felix and Maria De La Cruz Martinez, sister Bonifacia Marujo, brother Bernardino Martinez, grandsons: Dennis, Louie and Ricky Barela and great-grandson Armando Quintana
She is survived by her children Gilbert Barela, Chimayo; Nora Barela, Chimayo, Modesta Montoya, Nevada and Sophia Pope, Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 10 grea-great-grandchildren.
Recitation of the rosary was held Feb. 13 in the chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary, and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 14 at Holy Family Catholic Church with interment following at the church cemetery.
