A 19-year-old Edgewood man died of a possible drug or alcohol overdose Jan. 24, according to State Police.

Timothy Rivera was at an acquaintance’s house in Alcalde shortly before 5 p.m. when it was discovered he wasn’t breathing, according to State Police Sgt. Chris Valdez. The acquaintance told police she had met Rivera the previous day, and he had spent that night grinding Percocet and Valium tablets and snorting them, Valdez said.

Around 11 a.m. that morning, the acquaintance said she and Rivera went to sleep, and sometime after 4 p.m. she heard him make a gurgling noise. Injections of Narcan could not revive Rivera. The official cause of his death has not been released.

The state Office of the Medical Investigator confirmed that Rivera died of a suspected overdose. Rivera’s family could not be reached for comment.
