A State Police officer filed a report with Española Police after former Rio Arriba County Magistrate Court judge Tommy Rodella allegedly accused him of sleeping with his wife, Rep. Debbie Rodella (D-La Mesilla).
Officer Algin Mendes contacted Española Police Feb. 28 to report that Rodella called him and accused him of sleeping with his wife. The two then met at Dandy Burger in Española, the report states.
Mendes told police the accusations were untrue and he told the same thing to Rodella. Rodella also asked Mendes to find out which State Police officer was sleeping with his wife, the report states.
Mendes took Rodella’s comments to be threatening, according to the report.
“Tommy told Mr. Mendes that he would get his on Monday when he found out,” officer Danny Pacheco wrote in his report. “Mr. Mendes stated that he did not want any trouble with Tommy Rodella.”
Pacheco said last week that the incident was more of a disagreement rather than harassment.
“This is really not a crime,” Pacheco said.
Neither Rodella nor Mendes returned calls for comment.
From a press release
State Police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Española area between Thursday (3/12) and Saturday.
This check is part of an increase in law enforcement operations that is scheduled through April.
Officers will also be looking for aggressive driving and drivers who fail to yield and do not wear seatbelts.
