Carlos Bernardo Martinez
52, a resident of Alcalde passed away peacefully on Wed. March 4, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents; Rebecca and Fernandez Martinez. Brothers; Horacio, Merejildo and Agapito. Sister; Glorinda Garcia. Mother-in-law; Della Sanchez and Brother-in-law; Ben Archuleta. Carlos was an Hermano De La Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno de Los Pachecos. He worked during his life for the County of Rio Arriba, Los Alamos Medical Center and the Los Alamos Public Schools. He was a devoted member of The St. John the Baptist Parish in Ohkay Owingee and St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde. He had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Carlos loved being with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and his friends. He loved dancing, oldies music, playing bingo and fishing. His favorite saying was “The early bird catches the worm”. He is survived by his son Carlos L. Martinez, his pride and joy. Daughter, Crystal Sanchez his pride and joy and husband Joey all of Alcalde, daughter whom he loved very much, Beverly Manzanares and companion Jerome Martinez of Espanola. Mother of his children and his best friend, Matilda Martinez of Alcalde. Grandchildren; Jeremiah Sanchez and Samantha Sanchez both of Alcalde, Destiny and Joshua Martinez both of Espanola; father-in-law, Louis Sanchez of Alcalde, who was like a father; Sisters; Rose Archuleta and family of Albuquerque, Mary Laurel and husband Bernie and family of San Antonio, Texas, Dilia Martinez and Family of Espanola. Brother-in-law; Henry Garcia and family of Chimayo. All the Sanchez family, Louise Sanchez, Harold J. Sanchez and family, Marie Salazar and family, David, Robert, Joseph and Lawrence and their families all of Alcalde. God-daughter; Amanda and husband Abel Garcia of San Antonio, Texas and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation was Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde where a rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde. Burial followed in the La Villita Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers; Louis, Harold, David, Robert, Joseph and Lawrence Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers were; David Salazar whom Carlos considered his guardian Angel, Danny Moreland, Alvin “Beannie” Cata, Joey Sanchez and Eric Salazar.
