ABIQUIÚ LAKE: The fishing for walleye and smallmouth bass was fair using minnows, deep-diving crank baits and spoons. The fishing for trout was fair using crank baits, night crawlers and minnows.
CHAMA RIVER: The water flows Monday morning below the El Vado and Abiquiú dams were 193 cubic feet per second and 212 cubic feet per second, respectively. The fishing below the Abiquiü Dam was slow-to-fair using jerk baits and spinners for brown trout. The fishing for brown and rainbow trout below El Vado Dam was fair using wooly buggers, peacock nymphs and night crawlers.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: The fishing was good for trout and perch using power bait, salmon eggs, small hair jigs and worms.
FENTON LAKE: The trout fishing was good using Pistol Petes and small spoons. A few fish were also taken on power bait and salmon eggs.
JEMEZ WATERS: The water flow on the Jemez River Monday morning near Jemez Springs was 46 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing on the Rio Cebolla and Jemez River was fair using worms, salmon eggs, spinners and small bead head nymphs.
RIO GRANDE: The water flow at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 703 cubic feet per second. The fishing on the upper Rio Grande was slow for all species with a few trout taken by anglers using wooly buggers and spinners.
SAN JUAN RIVER: The water flow below Navajo Lake Monday morning was 499 cubic feet per second. The trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair-to-good using egg patterns, small hair jigs, wooly buggers, dead chickens and emergers. The fishing through the bait waters was fair using cheese baits, salmon eggs power bait and jerk baits.
SANTA CRUZ LAKE: The trout fishing was very good using power bait, salmon eggs, jerk baits, crank baits and spinners for anglers fishing from boats and from the bank.
CATCHES OF THE WEEK:
Nick Miera, of Albuquerque, caught and released a 22-inch brown trout March 10 on the Chama River below the Abiquiú Dam. He was using a black and gold countdown Rapala.
