Pojoaque Schools Warn of Advertising Scam

Published:

Pojoaque School District officials are warning of a scam by a company calling itself “School Booster Company” and “Sports Media” that is soliciting businesses to buy advertising space to raise funds for a sports poster.

At least one business has agreed over the phone to buy an advertisement from School Booster Company or Sports Media and received an invoice reading “Pojoaque Valley High School,” Pojoaque cheerleading coach Gwendolyn Romero stated in an e-mail.

Those companies are not affiliated with the District or the high school, and the solicitations appear to be part of a nationwide scam, Romero said.

The Rio Grande SUN is the only company authorized to print promotional sports calendars for Pojoaque, under an exclusive agreement. Businesses should purchase advertisements only for the poster sold by the SUN, Romero said.

The SUN donates 30 percent of proceeds to the school’s athletic department.
