Stabbing Suspect A Wanted Man

The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s department is looking for a man alleged to have stabbed his aunt’s boyfriend in the arm Sept. 27 and slashed his tires.

Ronnie Vigil, 26, of La Villita, allegedly threatened his aunt with a knife before stabbing Samuel Salazar Jr., 40, in the right arm , according to deputy Billy Merrifield.

It’s unclear what the argument between Vigil and Salazar was regarding, Merrifield said, but Vigil was upset with Salazar and confronted him in his home.

The two-and-a-half-inch cut required 10 stitches, Merrifield said, and Salazar was released from Espanola Hospital later that same evening. Attempts to find Vigil at the residence immediately following the incident and in the early hours of the following day were not fruitful, although he was reported to be in the area, Merrifield said.

Vigil has been charged with another crime as recently as July, for child abuse or abandonment and several misdemeanors, according to an online court records database. He also has an outstanding charge of aggravated battery from June, and pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence in 2003, the database states.

Dispatch logs state Vigil was allegedly intoxicated and possibly high on cocaine during the incident, law enforcement was not advised about the cocaine, Merrifield said. The incident is still under investigation, Merrifield said.
