Fire Chief Bans Burning in Española

Published:

All burning within Esapñola’s city limits is on hold until further notice, Española Fire Chief John Kitchen said Monday.

The Fire Department imposed the ban due to “extreme drought conditions.” The ban will remain in place indefinitely, Kitchen said. Burn permits will not be issued while the ban is in place.

“Until I determine we have enough moisture on the ground,” Kitchen said. “Right now it’s too dry.”

The Fire Department will issue citations to violators, which may result in fines set at a hearing in Española Municipal Court.
