An Española man died of a suspected drug overdose at the Fairview Sonic Aug. 9, according to Española Police.
Gilbert Gonzales, 32, was found by a Sonic cook shortly after 4 p.m., lying on the bathroom floor in the restaurant, a police report states. Gonzales was already deceased when the cook found him, the police report states.
Española Police found an uncapped syringe and other items used to cook heroin lying next to the bathroom door, officer Bobby Wright wrote in his report.
A field officer from the state Office of the Medical Investigator told police on the scene that Gonzales’ death appeared to have been caused by a drug overdose, but that determination could not be made for sure until an autopsy and testing was performed. Those tests can take weeks to months to complete.
Gonzales’ obituary states that Gonzales was a hard-working man who took pride in his work.
