Trojan Boys Take Silver City In Cuba Meet

    The Mesa Vista High School boys cross country team nearly captured their first meet title of the season Oct. 9, coming within two points of winner East Mountain at the Cuba Invitational.

    Paced by freshman Benjamin Sandoval, who won the meet with a time of 20:54, Mesa Vista scored 39 points.

    In addition to Sandoval, son of coach Ben Sandoval, the Trojans placed three other runners in the top 10 at Cuba. Senior Keenan Smith finished seventh with a time of 23:10, followed closely by brothers Andres and Adrian Coronado. The freshman and senior finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

    Alex Griego was the fifth runner to score for the Trojans, coming in 14th.

    Freshman Hailey Lucero, Mesa Vista’s only female varsity runner, clocked in with a time of 23:24 and finished second overall in the girls’ race.
