Lybrook Schools Raise Money for Cancer

Published:

Lybrook Elementary and Middle School will participate in “Hats On Day” Sept. 26, a national fund-raising event that supports the families of pediatric cancer patients.

Each student or teacher wishing to participate pays money for the privilege of wearing a hat to school that day. Students are charged 50 cents, while staff members pay $1.

Because the school is so small, with just over 100 students, students are asking various individuals, businesses, foundations or corporations to match the monies they bring in.

All monies will go to the Foundation for Children with Cancer, a national organization whose mission is to help pediatric cancer patients and their families.

“Hats on Day” was founded by a group of students trying to help a friend with cancer. Today the national organization has participation from all 50 states, with over 1,000 schools.

Anyone interesting in matching or donating funds may contact Principal Jacque Mangham at (575) 568-4491.
