A group of 12 Española Valley High School marketing students pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges at the State Student Business Plan Competition, a statewide entrepreneurship competition held at the Governor’s 2008 Economic Development Summit on Oct. 1 in Tucumcari. Five of the students won second through fifth place along with seed money to start their businesses.
• Dulce Avitia and Sara Maes won second place and $600 for a cosmetics and perfume retail business.
• Colleen Garcia won third place and $500 to start the Ice Queen, a door-to-door ice-delivery service.
• Sophia Trujillo won fourth place and $400 to start Pro-Ink, a custom silk-screening company.
• Krystal Sanchez won fifth place and $150 to start Krystal’s Beaded Lanyards.
