A Santa Cruz man took 12 hours to notice he was stabbed five times, according to Española Police.
Three men yelling “West side” punched Juanito Chavez, 21, Sunday, before scattering when police arrived on the scene, according to a police report. Chavez was at his sister’s Calle del Pajarito residence when the incident occurred, and no report was taken at the time. Chavez told police did he not know who the subjects were, a later report states.
Dispatch logs record Española Hospital staff contacted police around 11 a.m. Monday about a patient who said he sustained his stab wounds the previous night at the above-mentioned public housing neighborhood. The police report states that Chavez told police he didn’t notice that he was stabbed until 11 a.m. Monday.
Police observed five stab wounds to Chavez’s upper and lower chest area, the report states, and advised Chavez to make contact with police when he was discharged from the hospital. Police unsuccessfully tried to contact Chavez’s sister, the report states.
Two suspects reportedly seen at the Sunday incident are listed on the report but have not been charged yet in connection with the stabbing.
