Chama School Board Vice Chairman Ernest Vigil was scheduled to resign from the Board Wednesday (6/24), according to a board agenda and Chama School District administrative assistant Cleo Valdez.
“I’m sad and disappointed that he’s going to quit mid-stream like this,” Chama Village Councilor Billy Elbrock said Tuesday. “I really hate to see him resign. He’s been a real asset to the Board. My personal feeling — and lots of others have said they feel the same way — is that we elected you and now you’re deserting us.”
Vigil, 46, is halfway through his second four-year term on the Board, Elbrock said.
“I told him recently that I’d like to see him on the Village Council but he’s just not interested,” Elbrock said. “He’s had a taste of what’s involved and I guess he’s changed his mind totally on politics.”
Vigil and Board Chairman Donald Valdez could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Vigil has told colleagues that he is resigning for personal reasons, Valdez and Elbrock said.
