(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) A sign in the Española Valley High School front hallway announced Oct. 1 the Homecoming dance would be cancelled until further notice. Administrators told students they would call off the dance until they obtained information about 12 to 15 individuals spotted by security cameras who they suspected were involved in tagging the night of Sept. 30. Officials eventually suspended 11 students in connection with the graffiti, and the dance went on as scheduled Oct. 3, Superintendent Janette Archuleta said.
