The Taos field office of the federal Bureau of Land Management is continuing its use of prescribed fire to reduce hazardous vegetation and improve wildlife habitat in an area northeast of Tres Piedras on Cerro de Aire, also known as Wind or Pot Mountain.
A broadcast burn is planned during a period ending May 31, depending on weather conditions. This type of prescribed fire burns over the entire surface of a designated area. Smoke may be visible from surrounding communities and roadways.
In addition to the habitat benefits, this project will minimize the risk of a large-scale, high-intensity wildfire spreading to adjacent communities or homes.
