Española School Board Secretary Andrew Chavez was elected Region II president March 30 by members of the New Mexico School Boards Association.
Chavez will serve a two-year term. Region II includes the Chama, Española, Jemez Mountain, Los Alamos, Mesa Vista, Pecos, Peñasco, Pojoaque, Questa, Santa Fe and Taos school districts.
By virtue of his election as regional president, Chavez will also serve on the Association’s 40-member Board of Directors.
Chavez is only the second Española School Board member to serve in this capacity. The first was Rio Arriba County Magistrate Court Judge Alex Naranjo, who served as Region II president in from 1999 to 2000.
