The Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council received a $20,000 grant from the state Environment Department intended to help governments pay for recycling and anti-illegal dumping programs.

The grant will reimburse the Council for two trailers it had bought to collect recyclable waste on feast days and other events at each of the state’s 22 pueblos. The grant will also reimburse the Council for anti-theft equipment it had purchased, and for materials it plans to distribute to tribal governments on setting up recycling programs.

The Council had already established a tire-recycling program with a separate Department grant.

The grant is available to municipalities, counties, tribal governments, land grants, solid waste authorities and community associations.
