Election Explainer

Published:

Each city of Española voter’s ballot will include the mayor’s race, one council race and the library bond measure. Since 2008, voters can only vote in one council race during each election. The city is split up into eight council districts. There are two councilors in each district with one council seat up for election each even-numbered year. The mayoral election and the library bond measure are city-wide races.

Voting on election day will be held in two locations — the Española Senior Center and the Holy Cross Gym.

Where voters should go is based in which precinct they are registered under:

    • Rio Arriba County Precincts 7, 8, 9, 12, and 36  at the Española Senior Center

    • Rio Arriba County Precincts 3, 4, 10, 11 and 40; and  Santa Fe County Precincts 1, 58, 59 and 79 at the Holy Cross Gymnasium

For more information about the election, contact City Clerk Heather Velasquez at 747-6019 or hvelasquez@espanolanm.
