Police Blotter: Dog Bites Man

    Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Monday, April 19

    • 12:39 a.m. — A caller reported an assault on North Cross Place, saying a man had suffered a laceration to an eye and someone involved had been drinking.

    • 6:46 a.m. — A caller reported seeing an unconscious person with his legs lying near the roadway on Chimayó Highway by the Holy Cross Church.

    • 10:37 a.m. — Española Police served a warrant for drug court for a juvenile at Española Middle School.

    • 10:51 a.m. — A Santo Niño Lane caller told police he was riding his bicycle when a dog chased him and bit his shoe.

    • 2:43 p.m. — A caller said she saw a man on Paseo De Paulina wearing a gray jogging suit and a black jacket hitting a female wearing a gray shirt.

    • 3:31 p.m. — Police took a report of a woman on County Road 140 who was waiting at a bus stop when she was involved in a fight with a man and another woman. The man had hit the victim over the head with a stick and the woman told police she was feeling light-headed.

    • 4:30 p.m. — The Sheriff’s department took a report about a fight on Fifth and Pine Avenue, in which one combatant allegedly tried to burn down a house.

    • 4:46 p.m. — The Española Fire Department was called out to the RHOC Express station after getting a report there had been a gas spill there.

    • 7:16 p.m. — Deputies met with someone at Mike’s Mini Mart on State Road 68 who said a man she knew pulled a weapon on her and beat her up.

    • 8:18 p.m. — Española Police took a report about a man tearing clothes off a woman on Old Hospital Road.

    • 8:48 p.m. — Someone was threatening to jump off the Paseo De Oñate bridge, but that person was later found at the Dream Catcher movie theater.

Tuesday, April 20

    • 8:21 a.m. — Española Police took a complaint about a former female acquaintance of a man chasing him in a vehicle along State Road 76.

    • 8:38 a.m. — A Jemez Mountain School caller reported the school’s kitchen was full of smoke. It appeared to the caller that the burners had been on. The school was OK, but police checked the school walls with thermal imaging equipment to be sure.

    • 9:39 a.m. — Two males were allegedly shooting at a residence with a BB gun on Calle Redondo.

    • 12:09 p.m. — Burglars entered a home on Corlett Road through a window that was being replaced and stole a flat screen television, according to dispatch logs.

    • 12:59 p.m. — A white Chevy Blazer was towed after it drove through the main gate at Española Valley High School, ran over some cones, nearly hit an administrator’s car and a security guard and left southbound on El Llano Road. Someone told police the brakes were broken and that when the pedal is pushed it goes straight to the floor.

    • 1:20 p.m. — An Archuleta Trailer Court caller asked for State Police to closely monitor the area because someone had been siphoning gasoline from vehicles there.

    • 3:04 p.m. — Someone shoplifted a stack of clothes and a BB gun from Walmart on North Riverside Drive.

    • 5:39 p.m. — A Highway 84/285 caller complained that juveniles riding a four-wheeler had lit a trash pile on fire.

    • 9:46 p.m. — An “ex-friend” had been harassing someone in the parking lot of Club Tropicana bar on Paseo De Oñate by yelling obscenities.

Wednesday April 21

    • 9:30 a.m. — There was a report of a man by Century Bank on North Riverside Drive who was so intoxicated he fell and could not get up.

    • 3:52 p.m. — A Megill Street caller told police someone stole a door and a cat from a residence there.

    • 5:11 p.m. — Someone complained that a relative kept stopping by a residence on Orchard Lane and asking for money. The person got upset when that money was refused and the caller requested an officer.

    • 5:15 p.m. — About $1,000 was reportedly stolen from a vehicle on Private Drive 1535

     • 6:36 p.m. — A vehicle on Lower San Pedro Road and Santa Clara Bridge Road ran out of gas and rolled back and struck a “fixed object.”

    • 6:45 p.m. — There was a complaint about a man who showed up to remove items from the Las Lomas Apartments and began pulling things off the wall and threatening violence in front of children.

Thursday, April 22

    • 11:04 a.m. — Staff at the Hacienda Home Center on South Riverside Drive reported that someone attempted to steal a roll of copper.

    • 1:41 p.m. — There was a report of someone at the park and ride on North Paseo de Oñate reportedly going through the parking lot and trying doors to cars. Police told the person they would be looking for him if anything was damaged.

    • 2:05 p.m. — A lost defibrillator from the Española Fire Department was found, but with damage done to it.

    • 3:53 p.m. — Staff at Country Farm Supply on North Riverside Drive reported a case of embezzlement for someone who allegedly stole $5,000 from the store.

    • 4:37 p.m. — A well house was broken into on County Road 87 and someone “tagged” all of the walls, according to the owner.

    • 4:42 p.m. — There was a report of an intoxicated person filming neighborhood children on Fairview Lane.

    • 6:16 p.m. — A residence on County Road 41 was broken into through a window and a television, computer, and DVD player were stolen, according to the caller there.

Friday, April 23

    • 12:26 p.m. — There was a report of a domestic dispute in which someone was accused of stealing $80 and then asking for money to buy a gun so he could kill himself.

    • 1:59 a.m. — About 15 shots were fired over two minutes near Highway 84/285, according to State Police logs. Callers said they heard a man screaming but police were unable to find anything suspicious.

    • 2:53 p.m. — A caller said someone was stealing plants on Paseo De Paulina, but the plants were recovered.

    • 4:30 p.m. — Staff at Walmart reported that someone was fighting with loss prevention security there.

Saturday, April 24

    • 2:03 a.m. — A Jemez View Street caller reported that someone was lying unconscious on the side of that road. The unconscious person was transported to Española Hospital.

    • 3:11 a.m. — Someone was punching holes in doors in the Las Lomas Apartments according to 911 dispatch logs.

    • 11:46 a.m. — A Chevy pickup struck a man on a bicycle by the Tobacco Mart on Riverside Drive. The cyclist suffered some road rash, according to dispatch logs.

    • 6:11 p.m. A 30-pack of beer was stolen from the Quickstop on Paseo De Oñate.

    • 6:32 p.m. — A State Road 96 caller reported gunshots were landing in a yard. The caller did not know where the shots were coming from. Officers checked the area and could not find anyone firing a gun.

    • 9:51 p.m. — State Police were called about a liquor store clerk from Dan’s Liquor 534 on State Road 76 who had suffered a self-inflicted knife wound to his hand.

     • 11:16 p.m. — A caller reported hearing a woman scream “help me” on South McCurdy Road. Española Police reported that the woman left the residence before they arrived.

Sunday, April 25

    • 4:16 a.m. — A woman’s purse was snatched in the parking lot of the Santa Claran Casino Hotel.

    • 2:33 p.m. — Someone told dispatch that a boy’s dog got loose at a campground on Navajo Lake. The caller said someone then shot the dog.

    • 4:35 p.m. — Sheriff’s Deputies arrested one person who was attempting to shoplift beer from Bode’s General Store on Highway 84.

    • 6:20 p.m. — Someone complained about a controlled brush fire on Private Drive 1332. The caller said it was too windy for burning.

    • 6:40 p.m. — A caller reported someone flashing a knife to people on North Riverside Drive.

    • 9:13 p.m. — A basketball goal was reportedly stolen from the YMCA Teen Center on Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park Road.

    • 10:57 p.m. — Police confiscated a baseball bat from a person who was reportedly looking through windows in the Las Lomas Apartments on State Road 76.
