Former Española city manager Frank Naranjo, 56, was driving south July 26 on Highway 84 just south of Tierra Amarilla when his vehicle was struck head-on by a Toyota Tacoma truck driven by Daniel Langworthy, 21, of Tuscon, Ariz., State Police Sgt. Ken Olsen said.
Langworthy allegedly fell asleep while driving and crossed the center line, Olsen said.
Naranjo was airlifted to Mercy Regional medical center in Durango, Colo., where he was treated for a broken left ankle, bruised ribs and a bruised heart. He is listed in stable condition. Langworthy, was taken to Española Hospital for a broken left foot and is also listed stable condition.
Langworthy’s passenger Britanna Rose-Kelly, 21, of Tuscon, was pulled from the truck by emergency responders and taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital. H
ospital spokeswoman Cindy Foster refused to provide information on Rose-Kelly’s injuries but did confirm she was admitted to the neuroscience unit and is in satisfactory condition.
Olsen did not know whether any citations would be issued in the accident.
