‘Braveheart’ Re-Enacted on State Road 74

    Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Dog Under Fire

Monday, June 28

    • 3:36 a.m. — A Walmart employee said a raccoon was stuck in the trash compactor. Two other employees managed to chase the raccoon away.

    • 12:07 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller complained of people selling dogs in the Family Dollar parking lot.

    • 12:38 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 126 caller said a man wearing an orange shirt and driving an orange motorcycle was breaking into post office boxes on the side of the road.

    • 1:21 p.m. — Police Det. Bryan Martinez investigated a report of a prostitute on El Llano Road. He made two arrests after catching the people in the act.

    • 6:21 p.m. — An officer at the skate park said he saw people handing each other pills. He questioned the pair and arrested them.

    • 9:40 p.m. — A Shadowood Lane caller complained that his neighbors were shooting fireworks at his dog.

    • 11:30 p.m. — A County Road 56 caller said her boyfriend was fighting with her and a neighbor. Deputies said one of the people involved was drunk and bleeding from the mouth.

Morning Drunks

Tuesday, June 29

    • 12:18 a.m. — A County Road 347 caller said a bale of hay was on fire.

    • 6:54 a.m. — A Calle Bustos caller reported that two men took extension cords from his yard, but he later said the men were his friends and nothing was taken.

    • 7:39 a.m. — A construction worker said some people were not following the detour signs while his crew was working on the Oñate Bridge. He said people were giving him problems and he requested an officer. A Public Safety aide at the scene said no signs were up.

    • 7:48 a.m. — A Fairview Lane caller said some people were throwing trash from a vehicle.

    • 9:40 a.m. — An Hernandez caller said there were two extremely drunk women behind Montoya’s store and one of them would not get off his truck. He thought they could have alcohol poisoning. An ambulance transported someone to the hospital following the call.

    • 10:56 a.m. — A South McCurdy Road caller asked for help setting up a trap, saying she was having problems with a bobcat in the area.

    • 1:10 p.m. — A State Road 68 caller said some mattresses and pillows were in the road.

    • 3:08 p.m. — Firefighters extinguished a half-acre brush fire near the Dreamcatcher Theater.

    • 3:24 p.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller said she received a threatening and racist letter at the Health Centers of Northern New Mexico. The letter came from an unsatisfied patient, she said.

Wily Snake

Wednesday, June 30

    • 12:58 a.m. — A Tsigo Bugeh Village caller said people were throwing rocks at his apartment. He said he could see a woman hiding behind a blue van.

    • 8:37 a.m. — Two pumps at the scene of the wildfire in the Jemez Mountains near Cañones were stolen.

    • 9:13 a.m. — A community service worker said someone pulled a small chrome handgun on him behind City Hall. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.

    • 10:35 a.m. — A Corlett Road caller said a rattlesnake was in her yard, snapping at her cat and dog. By the time Animal Control officers arrived, the snake had escaped to an abandoned property next door where officers would not open the gate.

    • 11:46 a.m. — A Center Market employee said someone was trying to steal dairy products.

    • 1:49 p.m. — Las Lomas Apartments staff said the petty cash box was missing and there were no signs of someone breaking into the office.

    • 3:20 p.m. — A Valdez Park caller said a 16-year-old female hit her child.

    • 9:50 p.m. — A Calle Adrian Caller said people were lighting fireworks that were landing on his roof. He said this was a problem because he is a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Drunks Improvise Bathroom

Thursday, July 1

    • 1:26 a.m. — Santa Claran Casino staff complained about intoxicated people urinating in the parking lot.

    • 10:27 a.m. — A Private Drive 1600 caller said her granddaughter invited her boyfriend over and they could not get him to leave.

    • 4:53 p.m. — A Private Drive 1138 caller said his house was broken into and a flat screen and a laptop were taken. The suspect entered through the patio door and her alarm did not go off, she said.

    • 8:19 p.m. — An injured dog, which may have been hit by a car, was in the middle of State Road 68.

Loco Partying

Friday, July 2

    • 12:06 a.m. — Police sent home children who were playing basketball on Community School Road.

    • 1:59 a.m. — A State Road 74 caller said a naked male was walking around outside, carrying a blunt object and screaming “freedom.” State Police could not locate the man.

    • 10:32 a.m. — A State Road 68 caller said a woman wearing a short miniskirt and leather boots was jumping in front of cars.

    • 12:20 p.m. — A Camino De Roberto caller said he saw people in a tan town car shooting up drugs.

    • 2:10 p.m. — A Walmart shoplifter stole baby bottles and makeup, according to 911 dispatch logs.

    • 2:57 p.m. — A drunk man wearing a blue bandana and a sweater with the word “loco” on it was drinking in front of the North Riverside Drive Walgreens.

Mailbox Bombed

Saturday, July 3

    • 12:53 a.m. — Someone put a smoke bomb in a Fairview Lane mailbox and damaged it.

    • 5:31 a.m. — A County Road 1 man was cutting himself with a razor blade, a caller reported.

    • 10:05 a.m. — A County Road 416 caller said her daughter was pulling the phone lines out of her grandmother’s home.

    • 11:39 a.m. — Someone tried stealing pajama pants and purses from Walmart, a caller said.

    • 2:56 p.m. — A County Road 324 caller said her son had a large black bug in his ear that was scratching and biting him.

    • 8:06 p.m. — An Entrance Road caller said someone threatened to put him in the hospital, but he later said he did not know why he called. He added that someone was stealing his cigarettes.

Fireworks Dude Attacked

Sunday, July 4

    • 9:23 a.m. — A State Road 68 caller said a car pulled off he road and a man got out of the trunk.

    • 12:54 p.m. — A Pine Avenue caller said a 2-year-old cut his hand on a piece of broken glass and was bleeding profusely. The child appeared to be tired but was not pale.

    • 2:14 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said a woman hit someone who was lighting fireworks. The caller said the woman’s daughter then shot the man in the leg with a BB gun.

    • 4:40 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller saw a woman with a baseball bat chasing a Jeep.

    • 7:26 p.m.—  A Paseo De Paulina caller said her friend slit her wrists while they were drinking. The woman was taken to Española Hospital.
