Three Area Schools Qualify for State Cross Country Meet

(SUNfoto by George Morse) Mesa Vista junior Haliey Lucero is all by herself as she crosses the finish line in first place at the District 2A-AA cross country meet Oct. 29 in Pojoaque. Lucero crossed the line in 20 minutes, 54 seconds, nearly a minute ahead of the second-place finisher. Lucero and teammate Julia Martinez qualified for the state cross country meet Saturday at Rio Rancho, as did the Trojans’ Benjamin Sandoval. The Española Valley boys and girls teams both qualified for state after finishing third at the District 2AAAA meet Oct. 29 in Santa Fe. The Pojoaque boys team qualified after finishing second in the District 5AAA meet, as did Pojoaque’s Mikayla Garcia and Allison Garcia.
