Police Blotter: Forget Milk and Cereal; Man Mixes Booze, Pills for Breakfast

    Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Man Trapped in Action Movie

Monday, Jan. 31

    • 11:49 a.m. — A Fairview Lane caller said he went to check on one of his rental properties and someone stole his truck. He said it looked as though the truck was towed out of his yard.

    • 11:59 a.m. — A Center Market caller said one manager pulled a knife on another manager and both employees were separated. No one was injured.

    • 12:55 p.m. — A Megill Street caller said he came home to find his residence broken into and his television missing. A neighbor said he saw two people near the house in a small gray car with a missing hubcap on the rear driver’s side.

    • 4:26 p.m. — A Highway 84/285 caller said a woman struck a baby in the eye and threw a bottle of hand sanitizer.

    • 5:26 p.m. — A Bellas Lane caller said officers were outside of his house pointing guns at him. The man said he was prescribed a lot of pain medications. He said all of the officers were in unmarked units and pointing guns with scopes at him. The man said he would call his “zebra units” and he hung up the phone. Police contacted the man’s psychiatrist.

    • 7:13 p.m. — A Vista Del Rio Apartments caller said she set her mop on the porch to dry and someone lit it on fire.

Overdose or Fist Fight?

Tuesday, Feb. 1

    • 12:47 a.m. — A Fairview Lane caller said someone hit him in the head with a bat. He said the attack made him lose consciousness.

    • 8:20 a.m. — A Tewa Smoke House caller said someone in a gold Chevy pickup pulled a gun on one of the employees.

    • 10:34 p.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said her boyfriend threw her out of the car and scratched her face.

    • 4:44 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Jail caller said someone was having an allergic reaction to onions, which he ate for dinner. The man was having trouble breathing and was turning red all over.

    • 6:55 p.m. — A Fairview Lane and North McCurdy Road caller said there was either a fight or someone was overdosing. State Police took one woman and two men into custody.

Drinking on Roof Ends Predictably

Wednesday, Feb. 2

    • 12:28 a.m. — A Private Drive 1632 couple were screaming and arguing with each other. Dispatch operators learned the man just finished a fifth of whiskey.

    • 9:17 a.m. — An El Llano Road caller said she was being harassed by her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend.

    • 11:27 p.m. — A County Road 203 caller accused care workers of stealing checks from her elderly grandparents.

    • 4 p.m. — A North Paseo de Oñate caller said her son, who was in the fifth grade, was assaulted by an adult, who grabbed him by the arm, shook him and yelled at him.

    • 4:29 p.m. — A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said her 14-year-old nephew was “going crazy” after an argument at the home and he was threatening to break all the windows.

    • 6:05 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller accused an employee of taking her cell phone.

    • 6:12 p.m. — A State Road 74 caller said there was a dog across the street that was tied to a chain attached to a truck. The dog had a water bucket that was frozen over and the dog’s house was collapsed, the caller said.

    • 6:33 p.m. — An F&A Car Wash caller said the business had been closed for the last couple of days because of the weather and someone tried to rip the change machine out.

    • 9:32 p.m. — A County Road 101 caller said her son fell off the roof. She said he was unconscious and was bleeding. Later, the caller said the man was a “little” drunk but he didn’t want to go to the emergency room.

Pills, Booze for Breakfast

Thursday, Feb. 3

    • 7:53 a.m. — A Private Drive 1518 caller said her 36 year-old son was going in and out of consciousness and was having trouble breathing. The caller said the man drank a pint of vodka, drank some of a 24-pack of beer and took an unknown amount of Lortabs. The man was conscious and standing up by the end of the call.

    • 12:51 p.m. — A Children, Youth and Families Department caller on North Railroad Avenue asked for help because they were doing an investigation and the family was getting aggressive.

    • 2:39 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said a man he beat up was lying on the floor bleeding and the caller threatened to kill him. He said the man showed up drunk at his house and they got into a fight. The caller said he “had to” beat him up.

    • 3:24 p.m. — An Ash Loop caller said someone broke into her home and she found several hypodermic needles in the home.

    • 7:49 p.m. — A North Coronado Avenue caller said her parents were throwing her belongings out of their house. The police got to the residence and found between 13 and 15 cats there. They called an animal control officer to help remove the cats.

Insulted by Child-Proof Locks

Friday, Feb. 4

    • 12:01 a.m. — A Private Drive 1271 caller said she was in an argument over car keys at home and was trying to get someone to leave. She said she scratched the man in his face and locked the man outside.

    • 11:53 a.m. — A Ginos Place caller said there were two drunk, unconscious people in his bedroom and he wanted them out of his house. The caller said he drug one of the men out onto the front porch of his home but he can’t move him anymore.

    • 1:50 p.m. — A caller at Cook’s Home Center said he needed an officer because a truck was due there with heaters and people were getting irate.

    • 3:11 p.m. — An Española Health Office caller said she was 18-years-old and her mother locked her in the car and refused to allow her to get out.

    • 3:43 p.m. — A Del Norte Credit Union caller said an elderly man was in the business “wandering around.” The man did not know which day it was or who the president was.

Party Sweater

Saturday, Feb. 5

    • 1:21 a.m. — A Camino Consuelo caller wanted her 26-year-old daughter taken away because she was destroying her house.

    • 10:55 a.m. — A Walgreens caller asked police to pick up an extremely drunk person who had vomit all over his sweater.

    • 3:41 p.m. — A police officer who dropped a drunk person off at his State Road 68 home got a call from someone saying the intoxicated person was kicking doors in the area.

    • 6:10 p.m. — A Private Drive 1040 caller said she was in the hospital and came home to find her bathroom window open and items including a small laptop computer and two handheld video game systems missing. She said her mother checked her brother’s bedroom and found the items inside.

    • 6:26 p.m. — An Indian Way caller said her ex-boyfriend was stalking her.

    • 8:20 p.m. — A Calle de Parajito caller heard about seven gunshots in the area but police could not find the source of the shots.

    • 9:43 p.m. — A Milagro Mobile Home Park caller said residents left their home because of the cold, but left their dogs behind with only a blanket.

Gas Worker Spooks Burglar

Sunday, Feb. 6

    • 12:10 a.m. — A caller from Tortilla Flats in Santa Fe said three men beat up a man then ran across the street to a neighbor’s house. Police found a 9 mm handgun on the ground.

    • 2:38 a.m. — An Allsup’s convenience store caller said someone stole six packs of cigarettes and burritos.

    • 11:07 a.m. — An Allsup’s convenience store caller said men were panhandling from a truck that had duct tape all over it.

    • 12:29 p.m. — A caller wanted to report that a woman was hitting him “repeatedly” two days earlier at the storage units behind Walgreens.

    • 3:11 p.m. — A Walgreens caller complained that someone was urinating behind the business.

    • 4:18 p.m. — A Center Market caller said someone was selling pirated movies out of a car and a fight broke out.

    • 7:27 p.m. — A New Mexico Gas Company employee went to light a pilot light and saw a man run out of the This and That store. The caller said it looked as though the door to the store had been opened by a crowbar.

    • 9:38 p.m. — A County Road 40 caller said her son and his girlfriend were drinking and hitting each other. She said later they were banging on the walls but still hitting each other. Deputies went to the home and the man ran away toward the river. Deputies took the girl to her father’s house and got a call later saying that the man came back. Medical workers treated the man’s broken finger.
