Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:
Heroin Doggy Bag
Monday, Feb. 28
• 9:43 a.m. — A Ralph’s Locksmith caller said there were six used needles in front of the door to his business. Someone with the Española Fire Department picked the needles up.
• 10:40 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller complained about a tenant who was stealing cable and damaged the cable box with a pair of bolt cutters.
• 12:02 a.m. — State Police agents asked for a fire crew to spray debris at the rest stop off of Highway 285, the scene of a vehicle fire and a double homicide.
• 12:27 p.m. — A Vista del Rio Apartments caller found a needle with a brown substance inside, as well as a Wal-Mart bag with needles sticking out of the sides.
• 1:58 p.m. — A Sandy Lane caller said he was trying to pick up his things from his ex-wife’s home but she wouldn’t let him leave. Dispatchers heard the man telling the woman to stop touching him. The caller said he locked himself in a truck, but his ex-wife had the keys.
• 7:40 p.m. — A County Road 41 caller said she was two months pregnant and her mom punched her.

Tuesday, March 1
• 11:41 a.m. — A Private Drive 1528 caller said her son cut himself after breaking a window to get inside the house. Her son was unconscious when she called.
• 11:48 a.m. — A San Pedro Plaza caller said an elderly man was passed out in a gold Ford Explorer parked next to the “Welcome to Española” sign.
• 1:22 p.m. — A Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputy said someone ran away from her cruiser on foot on Highway 84. The deputy was told by a neighbor that someone tried getting into his home, claiming the police were after him, and he was “on something.”
• 4:30 p.m. — An El Llano Road caller said teenagers were in the area playing with “real” guns.
• 7:24 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said a man who appeared to be under the influence of some substance was knocking on the door to his home asking to use the bathroom.
Preemptive Bar Fight
Wednesday, March 2
• 6:22 a.m. — A Park Street caller said she broke up with her boyfriend and left him inside so he could get his things. When she came back in she noticed that he was in her purse, which he dropped when she saw him.
• 8:07 a.m. — An El Paragua restaurant caller complained that someone broke one of their windows.
• 10:36 a.m. — A Rio Arriba County Health Commons caller said a woman left with an employee’s purse under her shirt.
• 1:07 p.m. — A suspected shoplifter at Lowe’s Supersave ran away from Española Police and tried disposing of his shoplifted items inside a garbage can at Arby’s. Police caught the man, who had a cut to his finger.
• 5:32 p.m. — A Tropicana bar caller said there were two men outside who were possibly armed. The caller said the men weren’t fighting yet but he wanted to report it before it got out of hand.
Youths Get More Sophisticated Weaponry
Thursday, March 3
• 12:42 a.m. — An Ohkay Casino caller said two men and women were fighting in the bathroom.
• 8:13 a.m. — An Española Middle School caller said a student was throwing rocks and hit another student.
• 1:48 p.m. — A Private Drive 1610 caller asked for a Sheriff’s deputy because a man on a four-wheeler was destroying his chicken coop.
• 5:15 p.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller said she left her car with a mechanic but the mechanic had not returned the car. She claimed the car was stolen.
• 7:34 p.m. — A State Road 111 caller said her boyfriend was fighting with her and was running at her. The man was heard yelling in the background saying, “I did not hit you.” The man would not let the woman go into another room. They were separated by police for the night.
• 7:37 p.m. — An East Pueblo Street caller said a group of youths in the area always throw rocks at the house. The caller said her window was then shot with a BB gun.
• 8:01 p.m. — A County Road 87 caller said her son was armed with a knife and going crazy. Dispatchers could hear the son laughing in the background. The son dropped the knife.

Friday, March 4
• 12:25 a.m. — A West Roman Drive caller said her daughter was drunk and throwing things around the house. The caller said she was slamming a chair against a table.
• 1:22 p.m. — An Española Valley High School caller said a student was arrested for carrying a weapon onto school premises along with drug paraphernalia and Lorazepam.
• 5:37 p.m. — A Holy Cross Cemetery caller said a woman was in a vehicle using something in a syringe.
• 7:40 p.m. — Staff at the Rio Arriba County Jail said someone fell and “split his head open.”
• 11:06 p.m. — A County Road 59 caller said a man pulled her hair, kicked her and threw her across the room.
• 11:57 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said her daughter went to her house because someone shot out her windows.
Spooky Man, Slippery Baby
Saturday, March 5
• 12:29 a.m. — A Santa Cruz Country Store caller said she was carrying a 3-month-old baby. She said a man, whom she said walked toward her really fast, scared her and she dropped the baby.
• 6:27 a.m. — An Ojito Drive caller complained his wallet was stolen the night before. He said he was trying to report it to State Police the night before and they told him to sleep it off and call them back in the morning. He said they told him to call dispatch when he woke up and called them again.
• 10:57 a.m. — Sheriff’s deputies reported on a 4-month-old baby who was taken to the hospital with contusions to its head. A woman claimed she dropped the baby but her stories were changing.
• 2:49 p.m. — A Center Market caller complained a woman was sending threatening messages to her boyfriend. Dispatchers said the woman threatened to “commit some damage” to them.

Sunday, March 6
• 12:14 a.m. — A Forest Road 8 caller said a woman was saying she was beaten and choked. The caller said the woman’s ribs hurt and her face was swollen.
• 8:48 a.m. — A Forest Road 8 caller said two men in their late teens beat up her 52-year-old brother.
• 12:37 p.m. — A Private Drive 1612A caller reported a group of about eight men about to fight. The men were armed with bats and shovels.
• 3:22 p.m. — A Highway 285 caller said her ex-boyfriend was five minutes away from her house. She said he had been calling and texting her, telling her he was going to kill her.
• 5:05 p.m. — A Camino Carlos caller said a drunk man with a knife was chasing a child.
• 7:47 p.m. — A Lowe’s Supersave caller said a drunk man was going in and out of the store and taking his shirt off.
• 7:54 p.m. — A County Road 95 caller said her 15-year-old nephew pulled a knife on the caller’s brother because they were arguing over “some issues.”
