The SUN only publishes free events and activities in Northern Briefs, and gives preference to non-profits. This is a forum for community events. • Fireworks Display
The Los Alamos Kiwanis club canceled its annual fireworks display at overlook park in White Rock, due to extremely dry conditions. Food, entertainment and arts and crafts are still set to proceed.
July 7
• Parade Meeting
Española Fiesta committee members will hold an informational meeting for the grand parade from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Española Senior Stroke Center.
July 9
• Veteran assistance
The nonprofit Disabled American Veterans mobile service office will be at the American Legion Hall on Hunter Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide counseling and claim filing assistance. The service is free to all veterans and members of their families.
July 11
• Grief Support Group
TeamBuilders counseling hosts a grief support group every 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Aug. 8. Facilitated by Deborah Curtis, the group is free and open to everyone over the age of 15. The group meets in the TeamBuilders Española office at 1302 Calle de la Merced Suite H

• Golf fund-raiser
The Support the Matches Golf Tournament, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico, will take place at Black Mesa Golf Club with tee-off at 1 p.m. Registration is $90 per person or $360 for teams of four, which includes green fees, a cart, driving range and lunch. The Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council administers the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations based at 362 State Road 503 in Nambé, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program is available to low-income households of the Eight Northern area, including Taos County and Peñasco and eligible non-Indian households within any of the Eight Northern Pueblos’ boundaries.
