SUN Staff Report
Northern New Mexico College will host the local premiere Oct. 15 of the documentary, “Pink Skies.”
The film centers on Dr. Ruth Green, a breast cancer survivor. Green spends most of the film determined, along with a group of 200 other women from 31 different countries, to break the world record for an all-women’s skydiving formation.
“Dr. Ruth Green, one of our guests next week, is followed in the film chronicling her quest to join the ‘Jump for the Cause’ and discovers she herself has breast cancer,” Los Alamos National Laboratory projects control analyst Phillip Warnock said. Warnock helped coordinate the series of film premieres.
The skydiving team’s second objective is to raise $1 million for cancer research and prevention programs.
“The Jump for the Cause shown in ‘Pink Skies’ raises more than $900,000 for breast cancer research,” Warnock said.
“Breast cancer touches everyone, whether it be a family member, friend, coworker or a friend of a friend,” Lab Deputy Director Beth Sellers said. “The ‘Pink Skies’ video puts a face (on) and further personalizes the illness.”
The film will begin at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 15, in Northern’s center for the performing arts. It is free and open to the public.
