SUN Staff Report
The end of high school basketball season is March 15 and it is still not known when the Española Valley High School bleacher renovation project will be complete.
In the latest update of the bleacher sage, Española School District maintenance director Adan Cordova announced there would be a March 3 meeting with the contractors, School Equipment. It was not specified if the bleachers would be complete at this time.
The bleacher renovation was first approved by the Board in June when School Equipment was awarded the contract for $242,000.
In August, School Equipment realized the bleachers were in worse shape than originally thought. More work was needed to be done and more time was needed to complete it.
However, it was never clearly outlined exactly what the additional work would be, and in lieu of a definite plan, the Board began to change their minds on how the bleachers should be updated.
By December, the Board was back to the original plan of refurbishing the bleachers by installing new motors, repairing the bleacher infrastructure to ensure the bleachers are safe and refinishing the wood.
Since Jan. 6, every day the contractor does not complete the work, the District subtracts $500 from the contractor’s final payment.
