Demonettes beat Lady ‘Devils

(SUNfoto by George Morse) Española Valley High School’s Ashlynn Trujillo gets cut off by Santa Fe’s Kayla Herrera as she tries to drive to the basket in the Lady Sundevils’ 51-48 loss in overtime to the Demonettes in the District 2AAAA tournament championship game Feb. 28 at Santa Fe. Trujillo had 12 points in the first half and Española led 24-16 at halftime. The Demonettes came back to take the lead in the fourth quarter and the score was tied 39-39 at the end of regulation. The Sundevils received a fifth-seed in the Class AAAA state basketball tournament and host Belen in the opening round of the tournament Friday at Española.
