Audit Shows City Did Not Match Grant Funds

Española Grants Manager Diahann Jacquez (right) discovered and reported an error to the federal Environmental Protection Agency. She and Deputy Fire Chief Eric Tafoya addressed the Finance Board, Jan. 18. Jacquez at first did not pay enough matching funds to the Agency for a grant that paid for a new water line because she thought city officials only needed to pay 25 percent in matching funds, when they actually needed to pay 45 percent. The error appears in the city’s Fiscal Year 2017 audit.
