Editor:
I would like to make readers in the Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative service area aware that we are very ill-informed about the Co-op by current trustees.
Board members receive high pay (stipends) like a full-time job ($45,000 to ???) as published in the Rio Grande SUN last year. What do they do for us? Do they have a full-time job there?
The Board meets and members are not allowed to sit-in on Board meetings. Closed sessions are apparently held quite often. What could be so secretive?
There is no adherence to the Open Meetings Act.
Do we get a financial at the end of the year or are we informed about the new building we are about to construct? Don’t we want to know?
My friends and neighbors, we need to vote. A non vote is a vote. Most of us are Hispanic in these areas and are labeled as non-voters, we don’t care.
Let’s take some time, a very short time, to think. Maybe it’s time for a change. Look at who you’re supporting (friend, relative). Vote your conscience. The future of our children and grandchildren are at stake.

(Editor’s note: the state’s Open Meetings Act does not apply to electric cooperatives, however, many in the state do adopt it by choice at their annual organization meetings in January. Jemez Co-op does not adopt the Act.)
