The Española Fire Department will host its second annual block party 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 3, in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot, to kick off Fire Prevention Week. Residents are welcome to stop by and get a free smoke detector and enter for a prize giveaway at the end of the event.
Local businesses and fire departments will be in attendance, including Los Alamos Fire Department, Rio Arriba County Fire and Santa Fe County Fire.
Breast Cancer Awareness Softball Tournament
The Española Fire Department will hold on Oct. 16 its third annual Firefighters Co-Ed Softball Tournament. The entry fee is $275 per team, and there will be a max of 12 teams for the event. Proceeds will go toward breast cancer patients and the Fire Department’s benevolent fund. If you’re unable to attend the event, and would still like to purchase a breast cancer awareness T-shirt to benefit breast cancer patients, contact the Fire Department or reach out on the Union’s Facebook page.
