POLL: Pick the September 15 Athlete of the Week

Published:

Joslyn Nunez, Pojoaque Volleyball

The Pojoaque Elkettes are off to a fantastic start to the season, with a 7-1 record, and this weekend they placed third at the Santa Fe Tournament of Champions while competing against top schools from all classifications, establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the state.

Nunez has stepped in as starting setter in place of the Elkettes’ senior all-state starter from last year, rising from junior varsity as a sophomore. She celebrated her birthday on Sept. 6, and has been instrumental in setting up the team’s offense.

Sonya Quintana, Pojoaque Volleyball

Quintana returns for her senior year after a great 2021 season, and her leadership has helped the Elkettes take another step forward. The senior commands the middle and has elite blocking ability, plus potential to roll off several points in a row at any time.

Anica Urioste, Pojoaque Volleyball

While her teammate Quintana takes the middle, Urioste leads the offense as an outside hitter, and has a knack for finding holes on the other side of the court. She’s most often the one putting up big numbers while leading the Elkettes to victory.
