POLL: Pick the October 20 Athlete of the Week

Published:

Voting ends at 2 p.m. on Tuesday

Dominic Arellano, Escalante Football

The senior wideout had a game to remember on Friday. He caught four passes for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns. And late in the third quarter, he returned a fumbled punt for a touchdown, his third of the day, to all but seal the game. As a receiver on a run-first team, Arellano still plays a key role, and after scoring one career touchdown entering this game, adding three more counts as a career day.

Trey Archuleta, Escalante Football

Archuleta, as he led the Lobos to a nearly perfect game in beating McCurdy 50-0, continued to put up eye-popping numbers: 7-for-11 passing, 100 yards, 191 rushing yards, and five total touchdowns (two passing, three rushing). And he returned to form on defense to aid in the shutout. After missing time with an injury, the junior quarterback/linebacker looks to be 100 percent, if not even better.

Charnelle Gonzales, Peñasco Cross Country

The junior runner led the Lady Panthers to victory at the Academy Extravaganza on Saturday, with her 21:02.99 time finishing in fourth place overall, and leading Panthers behind her in sixth, 25th, 37th and 42nd. Gonzales will look in a few weeks to repeat the finish and bring a repeat state championship back to Peñasco.

Anica Urioste, Pojoaque Volleyball

Urioste continued to post impressive numbers in a dominant win over Española Valley. The senior outside hitter had 11 kills as the offense spread the ball around, and added six aces including winning double-digit straight points on her serve to finish the match.
