The Sundevil freshman capped a fantastic first season with a tenth-place finish at the 4A state cross country championships. She broke 20 minutes in a personal best in the quick-pace race, finishing with a time of 19:54.43
Rochelle Lopez, Peñasco Cross Country
The Panther freshman improved her pace from a year ago, and leaped into second place in the A/2A girls state meet. And her position made the difference in the tight race to give Peñasco another team championship.
Jude Martinez, Peñasco Cross Country
A late surge brought the Peñasco sophomore into the lead, as he took home the individual championship in the A/2A cross country championship with a 16:51.6 race, keeping the trophy in Peñasco for the third straight year.
Marisol Serna, McCurdy Cross Country
The Bobcats’ eighth-grader smashed her personal best, running a 21:23 in the state championship to finish eighth and nearly match teammate Aubrey Cordova. Her high score led McCurdy to a fourth-place finish, with a tight race between the top four teams.
