Dulce track wins districts
The Dulce boys track team captured a team title at the District 1-2A championships, held at Laguna-Acoma on April 29. The girls team finished tied for second, with many competitors qualifying for state.
James Johnson led the day with first-place finishes in the 100 meters, 400 meters and the high jump. He also ranks second in the state with his season-best javelin throw, though he did not compete in the event at district, and will look to medal again after placing second at state in 2022.
Jaren Johnson placed first in the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Bob Harrison, Jr. won the 300-meter hurdles race.
Issak Reval qualified for state after finishiing second in the javelin, discus and shot put.
Isaiah Reval placed third in the 1600-meter run, but his time ranks third-best in the state entering the championships, behind only two Laguna-Acoma runners.
And the Dulce boys will have a chance for a good medal in the sprint medley relay, with the third-best qualifying time; they placed third a year ago. They also won districts in the 4×800-meter relay.
On the girls side, Toccara Harrison won districts in the javelin, and Jasmine Keith placed second in the 300-meter hurdles.
4A Track Prepares for Districts
Pojoaque and Española Valley track teams both competed at the Larry Baca Memorial track meet, on the same Los Alamos course that will host the district meet on Friday.
The Española boys finished sixth in the meet, and the girls finished eighth. Pojoaque’s girls were sixth, and their boys were eighth. Los Alamos dominated the day for both boys and girls.
Pojoaque senior Sonya Quintana set a new personal best in the girls javelin, breaking her own school record with a 124-foot-2-inch throw, for the best 4A mark in the state.
Teammate Mikayla Calabaza won the discus throw at 102 feet, 1 inch, and she placed second in the shot put at 33 feet, 5.5 inches.
Española was led by Daniel Sanchez’s first-place finish in the boys 800 meters. Victor Parra won the boys high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. And they finished second in the boys 4×200-meter relay.
Escalante reaches semifinals
The Escalante e-sports team reached the semifinals in the Mario Kart state tournament, upsetting No. 3 seed Early College Academy. They face a second Early College Academy team in the semifinals on Saturday, played live in Albuquerque.
