Isabella Archuleta, McCurdy Volleyball AND Cross Country
A multi-sport athlete persevered through an extremely busy week. In a volleyball match against Escalante, Archuleta recorded seven kills, one block, and three aces. Days later, at the state cross country meet, the freshman for the Bobcats placed in 18th place.
Charnelle Gonzales, Peñasco Cross Country
Peñasco’s senior runner finished off a strong career at the state championship with a fifth-place finish in Albuquerque. And while the Panthers had won state championships in recent years, injuries this year hurt their chances. Next up is basketball season, where Gonzales will be a key starter on a team likely to go far.
Joslyn Nuñez, Pojoaque Volleyball
The junior setter finished the year strong for the Elkettes despite a disappointing ending. Nuñez recorded an incredible 47 assists in a four-set win against Española Valley, then added 35 more in a loss to Los Alamos.
Alanı Yeahquo, Escalante Volleyball
Escalante’s junior hitter had a huge match against McCurdy from the beginning. She finished the day with 13 kills, six coming in just the first set, with three aces and one block. Her play will be important as the Lady Lobos head to state.
