The New Mexico High School Coaches Association announced its all-state teams for fall sports, honoring all the top athletes in New Mexico.

Of the local athletes, Adrick DeLeon, Española Valley’s star running back who scored 31 touchdowns, was named a first-team all-state selection in 4A.

The Sundevils also had EJ Martinez named a second-team offensive lineman. Jack Purdy was honorable mention as a running back, and Abraham Tamayo was honorable mention at safety.

Escalante’s Ramon Martinez was a second-team mention at both defensive line and punter, and was honorable mention for offensive line. He was joined by brother Jeremiah Martinez, who was a second-team lineman.

Trey Archuleta was honorable mention at both quarterback and inside linebacker. Marcelo Baeza and Damon Emery were both honorable mentions at outisde linebacker. Ezekiel Martinez was honorable mention at offensive lineman. Jayden Salazar was an honorable mention in the secondary, and Greysen Horan was an honorable mention tight end.

In volleyball, Escalante’s Jayden Macias was a second-team all-state honoree at defensive specialist.

Escalante 2nd at Tourney

The Lobos (3-2) took on the Mescalero Tournament, and finished in second place after a strong weekend.

Escalante started with a 59-46 win over Quemado (4-2); the Lobos led big early, and were able to close out late in the game.

In the second round, they grinded out a close 52-51 victory over Mescalero Apache (4-3). In the championship game, Escalante lost to Ft. Sumner (6-1) 74-61. The Foxes have consistently been one of the state’s top teams despite playing in 1A as a co-op with House. Escalante was within two points at halftime, but Ft. Sumner pulled away with a strong fourth quarter.

McCurdy Boys play in Tularosa

The Bobcats (3-2) played well after traveling south to the Tularosa tournament, though they ultimately finished in fourth place. 

McCurdy cruised past Lordsburg (1-6) in the first round, leading 23-7 after one quarter. In the semifinal against Santa Rosa (2-2), the Bobcats held the lead early, but ultimately lost 83-67 in a high-scoring game.

In the third-place game, McCurdy lost 81-72 to Ruidoso (4-3) after leading at halftime, with the Warriors finishing strong, led by 29 points from Logan Sandoval.
