Girls Basketball: Mesa Vista vs. Pecos

The Lady Trojans are red-hot again. Over the last three weekends, Mesa Vista has taken home first-place trophies at the Aztec Rumble in the Jungle, the Northern Rio Grande Tournament, and now the Santa Fe Indian School Tournament, taking down big and small schools alike along the way.

Now as the No. 1 2A team in the coaches’ poll, they look to keep a now 12-game win streak alive. A trio of guards in Shanae Silva, Tana Lopez and Bella Boies have led the way, but forwards will be important against Pecos’ Natalia Stout, a one-woman wrecking crew.

Girls Basketball: Grants vs. Pojoaque

The Elkettes are on the rise over the past week. They took a good team in Robertson to overtime less than a week after losing to them by 18. They defeated a 5A team in Manzano, and then won by 48 over Hot Springs, scoring 82 points in the process, their most points in a game since 2013.

Their final non-district tune-up should be another winnable opportunity, with the Pirates off to a 3-13 start. The Elkettes will look to continue their improvements on offense.

Girls Basketball: Dulce vs. Santa Fe Indian

The Lady Hawks are looking to keep pace with the top teams in 2A, and that would involve beating the Lady Braves on the road, something Mesa Vista did last week. It would also be something Dulce has not done in at least 15 years, losing 10 straight matchups per MaxPreps record keeping. Bailey Vigil will need to be at the best on both offense and defense to lead the team to a win.

Boys Basketball: Capital vs. Pojoaque

The Elks have a couple big recent wins to their name over Lovington and Pecos. And in a down year for District 2-4A, that’s enough to be on pace for a district title. Sophomore Joziah Salazar has taken over as the leading scorer with a good shooting stroke. But Saturday’s game is a different beast against 8-5 Capital, a team with big wins over both Española and Los Alamos. A good showing will make another statement before entering district play.
