We All Need to Demand Better Politics

Published:

As we approach the end of the 2024 municipal elections we all should be demanding better politics. Far too often in our current political climate cultural issues, petty personal issues, and tribalism dominate our discourse.

Meanwhile, some of the most important issues of our time such as the housing affordability crisis, the opioid epidemic, the huge increase in homelessness, and crumbling infrastructure not only go unaddressed but aren’t even spoken about.

Politicians know it’s far easier to either pretend these issues aren’t happening and run a campaign claiming everything is fine, or focus on an issue that just gets people outraged so that they can get that one last vote.

Now more than ever we need practical leaders who are willing to put their nose to the grindstone, ignore the drama and focus on getting things done. It is possible to work with people you don’t always agree with to try and tackle these pressing issues of our day.

I won’t always be perfect when it comes to these matters, no politician is, however I promise that I want to do everything I can to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. There is so much more that unites us than divides us, focusing on how we all want to better our communities will allow us to move past the tribalism, polarization, and division that is tearing us apart.

I love Española and Northern New Mexico. I’m so blessed to have grown up here in one of the most amazing places in the world. No matter what happens on Election Day, it’s been an honor talking to the people of my hometown as I fought for a safer, stronger, and better future for all of us. I hope I’ve earned your support and I’m ready to get to work with you all together. God bless.
