Last week I was driving back from Colorado, and picked up the Rio Grande Sun in Española. I finally found time to read the paper yesterday morning and also found out that my son’s hunting cabin had burned to the ground yesterday afternoon. While Ruidoso has experienced a number of forest fires over the past several years, there’s no doubt that climate change has exasperated the issue. So reading, Tom Wright’s, guest editorial, I guess I was, to put it bluntly, just a bit taken aback. Nate had put in an offer on a house in Ruidoso about eight years ago, and his offer had been turned down.

He’d been archery hunting for elk in the area for a number of years, and really liked being there part time. I suggested he buy land and build himself a little hunting shack. It wasn’t big, 12 x 16, two stories with a sloped roof and large decks with a great view of Sierra Blanca.

It took him six years to build and he’s was pulling in $30,000 a year, as an Airbnb rental. While he has insurance, the value of his property, and the income, are now ashes. For Tom to suggest that we support candidates who don’t believe in climate change, it’s unbelievable.
