Police Blotter: Woman Suspects In-Laws of Bugging Apartment, Luggage

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Trash forts

March 27

7:03 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man caught in barbed wire near the Ohkay Casino.

7:36 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who was slumped over inside a vehicle near El Rito Elementary and had been there since the previous day.

8:18 a.m. A Giant caller wanted a man in the store trespassed because he was harassing employees and wiping snot on the window.

8:56 a.m. A man had an allergic reaction to suboxone.

9:51 a.m. Homeless people built forts against the dumpsters near Familia Dental and customers could not get to the dumpsters to throw trash.

10:19 a.m. A Velarde caller said his neighbor saw them standing on the side of the road and sped up.

10:52 a.m. A car was in the middle of the road on N.M. 74 and Racetrack Road and it appeared the wheels flew off the car.

12:20 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an elderly woman crawling on the curb near Del Taco.

12:58 p.m. A man stole a bike chain from Treasures of Enchantment. He fled, but went back to the store and was yelling and cussing at staff.

1:08 p.m. A man reported items were stolen from the back of his truck at Harbor Freight.

2:33 p.m. A caller reported someone was taking photos of them at the Rio Arriba County Archives building in Tierra Amarilla and it was making them uncomfortable.

3:10 p.m. A caller wanted a man removed from Pecos Valley Productions because he was in the dumpster.

4:21 p.m. A shirtless man was jumping around in traffic on North Riverside Drive and Fairview Lane.

4:22 p.m. A woman got upset with Big 5 staff and threw an unknown item at the manager.

4:45 p.m. A “half-naked” man with his buttocks hanging out of his pants was panhandling at the Fairview Sonic.

5:53 p.m. A man was rummaging through the trash at the Park and Ride and throwing it everywhere.

6:22 p.m. A Dixon caller said there’s a woman in the house and someone just shot a gun.

6:37 p.m. The door at the Hunter Ford building was kicked in.

7:07 p.m. A woman was hitting a man at Speedway and tried to hit his car.

10:41 p.m. A caller said a person was run over by a truck near Fairview Pharmacy, but police could not find the person.

12:49 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh officer pursued a car driving the wrong way but lost it.

1:28 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.

3:09 a.m. An overdose was reported near a church in Hernandez.

4:50 a.m. A man was arrested after a traffic stop near the Santa Claran Casino Hotel.

8:44 a.m. The baby box alarm was activated at the Española Fire Station.

10:46 a.m. A woman was being aggressive and panhandling at Avanyu Travel Center.

12:11 p.m. A caller reported it appeared a woman was trying to hit a man with a stick at Walmart.

1:57 p.m. A man at Walgreens was trying to use Western Union and the machine said money was ready for pickup, but the staff told him it wasn’t working and asked him to leave.

2:03 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said two children on an ATV threw rocks at his car.

3:12 p.m. A person was smoking drugs between Point S and Center Market.

3:26 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a staff member is on something, is tweaking out and is scaring them.

5:05 p.m. A woman was overdosing at Española Pathways Shelter. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

10:18 p.m. There was a man lying on the ground near the State Police office.

11:07 p.m. Six people were trying to get into the old Dollar Store near Center Market.

11:30 p.m. A woman said she needed a federal officer to escort her drunk juvenile home. She also said people are recording her.

4:04 a.m. A caller heard two shots in the La Joya Street area.

4:27 a.m. A man at the Ohkay Casino said he had a warrant out of Taos and wanted to turn himself in.

6:16 a.m. A man was unconscious but breathing on Sandy Lane.

11:14 a.m. A Calle Olivas caller reported a homeless woman is living in a box on her property and she wants to speak with an officer about what she can do.

11:46 a.m. A man went to Northern New Mexico College and was harassing faculty members.

12:09 p.m. A man on a child’s bicycle was lying on the ground next to the Chamisa School of Driving.

12:28 p.m. A man was exposing himself and masturbating on Pippin Way and North Paseo de Oñate.

2:06 p.m. The owner of Mesilla Self Storage said one of the units was burglarized.

2:09 p.m. A Brazos caller reported their garage was broken into.

3:17 p.m. A Calle Gallegos caller said a woman is in her backyard, gathering weeds. She’s asked her to leave several times, but she’s still there.

5:14 p.m. A man and woman were fighting near Little Caesar’s.

5:36 p.m. A man and woman were asking Dairy Queen customers for money and refusing to leave.

5:40 p.m. A fire near the irrigation ditch in Alcalde was reported.

7:28 p.m. A woman on Ash Loop and East Pueblo Street was holding a handgun.

7:44 p.m. A woman said she was attacked at Ranchitos Park.

March 30

1:09 a.m. A caller said her son phoned to tell her he’d been shot somewhere near Speedway. It was determined he was shot by a BB gun or air rifle.

10:46 a.m. A Speedway employee reported a man went inside the store to buy alcohol and smelled like liquor. He then left in his vehicle.

2:25 p.m. A caller said their children are practicing at Valdez Park and a man on a bench is acting suspicious and picking up and pulling down his pants.

2:32 p.m. A Goodwill caller reported people are behind the building, mixing and doing drugs.

3:09 p.m. A La Joya Street caller said homeless people left their stuff in front of the doors to the business.

3:23 p.m. A San Pedro Shell caller reported an employee is nodding in and out and they want a welfare check done on them.

4:15 p.m. A caller said man was piling brush and trying to start is on fire at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

4:18 p.m. A Ranchitos Park caller reported two men were racing and crashed a motorcycle.

5:06 p.m. A Walmart caller said a woman moved away from her cart in the checkout lane, so they moved the cart out of the way and began to check out. The woman got upset and threatened to call someone to beat up the caller.

5:26 p.m. A Chimayó caller reported they are having ongoing issues with a meth head who parks his vehicle on the road, blocking it.

6:45 p.m. An Alcalde caller said their niece is being violent with her mother and is on drugs.

10:40 p.m. A caller reported a man was battered at Valdez Park by a man named “Crazy.”

10:51 p.m. A man went to the Española Hospital with a stab wound.

March 31

3:13 a.m. People were fighting on Calle de Pajarito and Lower San Pedro Road and someone pulled out a gun.

3:23 a.m. Shots were heard behind the Lovin’ Oven.

8:51 a.m. A woman went to RASO to file a fraud report because she bought gift cards after speaking with people over the phone.

10:33 a.m. A caller reported their vehicle was stolen from their Hernandez home overnight.

11:37 a.m. A McCurdy Charter School caller said a kindergarten student has burns on her upper thigh. The mother said the child spilled ramen noodles on herself, but they did not seek medical attention.

12:21 p.m. A caller reported a man and woman are using a ladder to try and get into a house on Pacheco Lane and State Road 76.

12:32 p.m. A caller said her vehicle was stolen from Walmart either Wednesday or Thursday but she didn’t report it because she wasn’t in the area.

1:33 p.m. A woman wanted to file a report because her daughter’s window was broken at 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

2:49 p.m. A caller reported his friend’s brother has been following him around for a few weeks.

3:51 p.m. A Family Dollar in Hernandez caller reported a man is harassing and threatening him.

4 p.m. Someone broke into In Your Dreams and took cutting tools and money.

7:22 p.m. An overdose was reported at Valdez Park. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

8 p.m. A caller said a person is behind the old Rio Grande SUN building, smoking drugs and defecating.

9:42 p.m. A man fired a handgun at a vehicle on North Railroad Avenue and Fairview Lane.

4 a.m. A home was broken into on Calle del Rio and a camera, TVs, tools and jewelry were taken.

7:55 a.m. A Dixon caller said his neighbor vandalized his sign and he has video footage.

9:58 a.m. A Velarde woman wanted officers to search for her 20-year-old grandson because he took rare coins from her purse. When she was told they cannot do that, she said, “why am I calling the cops then?” and hung up.

10:41 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller wanted officers to check on a man in a hotel room because they thought he was doing drugs.

11:34 a.m. A woman was arrested after nearly going head-on with other vehicles in a pursuit that began in Ohkay Owingeh and ended in Hernandez.

1:17 p.m. A Lucero Center caller found a woman passed out in a bathroom stall.

1:18 p.m. A Calle Canuto caller said a homeless woman has been going into his yard and he wants her removed.

1:58 p.m. A woman thought her in-laws planted cameras in her apartment and luggage. She asked officers to do an electronics sweep.

2:31 p.m. An infant fell out of a shopping cart at Walmart and hit his head.

2:32 p.m. A caller reported a person is harassing her when she picks up her child from school.

2:48 p.m. A woman said her boyfriend texted her, saying he may have overdosed. The man said the text was a test and wasn’t supposed to be sent.

4:45 p.m. A man drank alcohol and took some other substance, which resulted in an overdose.

5:03 p.m. A Lucero Center caller said contractors left crates outside for a project and when they returned, the crates were gone.

6:50 p.m. A Velarde caller reported her ex, against whom she has a restraining order, is at her house.

7:35 p.m. A caller said he was threatened by a co-worker, who’s been making death threats over the phone.

10:07 p.m. A Calle Loma caller reported someone was trying to get into the house.

10:35 p.m. A caller said a metal propanel sheet was removed from an abandoned property that he owns between the San Pedro Shell station and Saints and Sinners.

10:43 p.m. A man was throwing things at Speedway and harassing customers who were pumping gas.

April 2

12:39 a.m. A deputy stopped a vehicle in Hernandez after the driver did a donut in the highway, in front of him.

6:20 a.m. A woman’s death was reported on Calle Flores.

6:35 a.m. A caller said a man was trying to pull a woman into his truck and she was crying and asked the caller to phone 911.

8:19 a.m. An El Rito caller reported a rifle is missing from the shed on his property.

8:26 a.m. A Carr Lane caller said homeless people are lighting a fire between his house and Walmart.

12:01 p.m. A Roadrunner Drive caller reported someone was trying to break into his car.

12:13 p.m. A very drunk man was yelling at security at the Park and Ride.

12:53 p.m. A man who was trespassed from Walmart for doing a drug deal in the parking lot returned.

1:05 p.m. A man was waiting for the bus at the Park and Ride and got into an argument with another man. He said it escalated and thinks his arm got broken.

1:36 p.m. A woman in Chamita was in and out of consciousness. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

4:14 p.m. A Taco Bell employee requested courtesy rounds because several homeless people were outside, asking customers for money.

4:30 p.m. A man in a car pulled out a gun and pointed it at another vehicle at Walmart.

6:05 p.m. A man was walking around at the Dollar General in Española, showing a knife.

6:05 p.m. A La Cocina caller said a man was walking around the parking lot with a knife.

7:19 p.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller reported a woman was trying to fight everyone in the house.

8:10 p.m. A Corlett Road caller said a man in a cowboy hat is sitting on the ground, yelling at people.

9:56 p.m. An Alcalde caller requested an ambulance because she had too much to drink.
