Police Blotter: Early Morning Yelling and Shadow Boxing

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

‘Obviously’ drug dealing

April 24

11:47 a.m. A caller said a person in a Jeep at the Ohkay Eagle Mart was “obviously selling drugs” because multiple people were walking up to it and leaving.

12:50 p.m. A man on North Railroad Avenue was pistol-whipped in the head by three people.

1:05 p.m. A caller said he got into an altercation with an employee at Lowe’s Home Improvement and got pepper-sprayed. His son and nephew were also pepper-sprayed.

3:44 p.m. A man was trying to fight Walmart security and staff and was yelling at them.

5:01 p.m. A man was urinating on the Park and Ride benches and exposing himself on South Paseo de Oñate.

5:34 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller said the neighbor threatened to kill her and her dogs.

5:53 p.m. A Calle San Miguel caller reported a man hopped over the fence behind her house and tried to steal tools.

8:43 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle is doing donuts in the Lowe’s parking lot.

10:33 p.m. A caller said someone in a vehicle in the Ohkay Casino parking lot was smoking from a pipe.

 

A year too late

April 25

12:41 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said a woman tried to fight her, pushed her and slashed her tires.

1:11 a.m. A man was beating a woman in the Fairview Lane area.

7:56 a.m. A parent was at Fairview Elementary and refused to leave.

12:20 p.m. A caller thought he left his card at the ATM in front of Walgreens because he checked his account and found it overdrawn by $400. The man didn’t have any documentation to prove the account was overdrawn and police learned it happened more than a year ago.

12:32 p.m. A woman called 911 asking for help and said she doesn’t know where she is.

12:37 p.m. A CYFD caller said a man is getting aggressive with staff.

2:16 p.m. A man as dancing in the middle of the road at South McCurdy Road and La Joya Street.

3:44 p.m. A Greenfield Road caller reported the neighbor is running an extension cord from his house to hers.

6:53 p.m. A caller reported a man is walking around County Road 15 and County Road 16, trying to shower with the “irrigation.”

8:46 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man jumping around in the roadway near La Joya Street and Camino Arbolera.

April 26

3:04 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a male and female on the side of the road near Wells Fargo Bank, who were trying to wave her down. A second caller said she was driving past the bank and a person stopped and asked her for Narcan because three juveniles were overdosing.

7:30 a.m. A caller said she was at Walmart yesterday and employees kept her wallet after accusing her of shoplifting.

8:36 a.m. An Española Hospital caller requested an ambulance because he said he’s in the waiting room and they aren’t paying attention to him.

3:19 p.m. A Dixon caller said she was dog sitting a blind dog and it took off.

5:56 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a woman is getting in her face and calling her names. She wants the woman trespassed. She also said the woman pulled down her pants and mooned her.

9:29 p.m. A caller said her 14-year-old grandson is threatening her, saying he’s going to come by and shoot her windows.

10:36 p.m. A Dairy Queen caller was waved down by someone in a car who was waving a gun.

April 27

12:34 a.m. A caller reported someone in a car was driving around, shooting BBs at people.

3:08 a.m. An Española Hospital patient was being violent.

6:57 a.m. A McDonald’s caller said people are doing drugs in a vehicle in the parking lot.

12:04 p.m. A caller reported her nephew is having mental issues and saying concerning things and knocking on windows.

12:46 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who’s been sitting outside the Speedway for four days.

2:23 p.m. A caller reported driver going toward Riverside Drive pretended to pull a gun on them.

2:25 p.m. A Chamita caller said her uncle is throwing water and he has several weapons. She said if someone doesn’t go out soon, they will come to find a dead body.

7:26 p.m. A caller on West Laguna Street and North Riverside Drive said someone in a truck was throwing water balloons as they passed people.

8:51 p.m. An Española Hospital caller reported teens that came in because of a possible vehicle vs. pedestrian accident are fighting.

April 28

12:05 a.m. A rolling domestic was reported near 420 Emporia in which a man was hitting a woman in a car.

1:27 a.m. A fire was reported on County Road 1 in Hernandez. It was determined that a man threw a cigarette that started the fire.

3:31 a.m. A man was yelling and shadow boxing on Calle del Sol.

9:47 a.m. An officer responded to Fairview Elementary for a case of child abuse.

4:52 p.m. A caller reported a man in a truck is loading plywood from Desert Sun Motors in his truck.

5:29 p.m. A caller said her daughter got into a fight after school at Fairview Elementary and she wants to press charges on the other student. She said she has footage of teachers letting it happen.

6:47 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller said a vehicle in front of the store keeps moving from one parking space to another and has been there for about an hour.

7:23 p.m. An overdose was reported on County Road 141. Three doses of Narcan were administered.

8:49 p.m. A caller said a man wrapped the stop sign on East Santa Clara Bridge Road and Lower San Pedro Road in cardboard and lit it on fire, then walked away.

11:31 p.m. An Española Hospital caller reported a person was discharged but is in the emergency room waiting room and refusing to leave.

April 29

9:05 a.m. A Romero’s Fruit Stand caller said they found a person sleeping there when they got to the property in the morning.

9:22 a.m. A woman said her husband stole her phone last night and she’s tracking it. The phone was returned.

9:51 a.m. A caller reported her younger sister is fighting with her over the caller taking food from the house and to a camper trailer where she stays.

12:17 p.m. A woman went to EPD to speak with an officer because she said she was beaten on Thursday behind 420 Emporia.

12:25 p.m. An El Parasol caller said a truck is taking two handicapped spots.

12:55 p.m. Two students at Española Elementary allegedly were in possession.

1 p.m. A caller said a man texted her husband threatening to beat him up and other “vulgar” phrases.

3:01 p.m. A Gil’s Rentals caller reported a trailer was stolen from the front parking lot.

3:19 p.m. A caller in Ohkay Owingeh said a man was throwing a rope and chain around.

3:21 p.m. A caller reported a Mustang went off the road in Medanales.

3:41 p.m. A Velarde caller said a man walking on the side of the road walked into traffic.

3:45 p.m. A stolen vehicle was recovered on Santo Niño Lane.

6:03 p.m. A Chama caller reported a man from Farmington is harassing her.

6:20 p.m. A Burger King caller said three homeless people on bicycles are out front, drinking, smoking and refusing to leave.

7:10 p.m. A Chama caller reported someone broke into her house and left needles.

7:47 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said there’s a mailbox in the ditch and she thinks it’s stolen.

8:55 p.m. A caller reported a strong gas smell at Ferrell Gas in Chama.

9:02 p.m. A caller said he used to live in Española years ago and was abused. He thinks he saw his abuser in Albuquerque and the police department there told him to file a report with EPD.

10:45 p.m. A Burger King caller reported a bag with drugs was left at the drive-thru window.

 

Flickering light

April 30

12:02 a.m. A caller saw flickering lights at the entrance to the Sacred Heart Cemetery and requested an officer check it out.

5:14 a.m. A caller reported someone was hanging out the passenger side of a vehicle that looked to be wrecked on State Road 76. A man was reported to by lying on the side of the road with two red gas cans.

8:26 a.m. A caller said a Cadillac was chasing a solid waste truck and was trying to run the truck off the road.

9:33 a.m. A Blue Bus scraped the roof over an order stall at the San Pedro Sonic.

10:07 a.m. A Camino del Sol caller said a man was walking down the street in an all-black track suit and gloves. He was also trying to get over a fence.

11:07 a.m. Two people were in a car at the Ohkay Eagle Mart; the driver was passed out and the passenger was smoking off foil.

12:29 p.m. A Middle San Pedro caller reported a man walking around with boxes from multiple shipping companies.

12:33 p.m. A case of possible sexual abuse in a home was received at the Española Middle School and staff contacted the Children, Youth and Families Department, who then contacted New Mexico State Police.

12:53 p.m. A man was trying to get onto a property on West Bond Street. He was issued a trespass order and told not to return.

1:08 p.m. A hit-and-run was reported at Walmart.

1:47 p.m. A caller said her mother is arguing with her and trying to swing at her.

2:46 p.m. A caller reported a woman was running from a man and trying to flag down vehicles in Hernandez.

2:52 p.m. State Police took a man into the emergency room for an evaluation and to be admitted, but he fled.

3:18 p.m. A caller reported one of the EPD officers lives around there and the officer’s dog house flew over their house and now there’s two dogs running around loose outside.

4:07 p.m. A man went to EPD to file a report because his Social Security number was being used.

4:12 p.m. A horse was roaming around on North Railroad Avenue.

5:09 p.m. Two men were fighting in the street on Valley Drive and North McCurdy Road.

9:23 p.m. A vehicle that fled from a RASO deputy was spotted in Hernandez.

11:18 p.m. A drunk man was arguing with someone in the Ohkay Casino parking lot.
