Police Blotter: No Phone, Purse or Wallet and No High Heels, Either

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Get in the Truck

Aug. 28

7:18 a.m. An officer cleared a condemned house on Ash Loop. He requested Game and Fish be contacted because there were animal skulls in the house.

7:32 a.m. Two people with a small vacuum got in a man’s face and threatened him with a stick at Valdez Park.

7:41 a.m. An El Llano Road caller said his younger brother is breaking property.

9 a.m. A caller reported a man was following her and hit her with his hand.

10:06 a.m. A YDI caller said she was outside when an old man in a truck told her to get in the vehicle.

10:39 a.m. A Dixon caller wanted to speak with a deputy about adults harassing a child.

1:20 p.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller reported his father shot himself.

3:09 p.m. A man was throwing rocks at cars on North Coronado Avenue and Calle Lopez and damaged a woman’s car.

3:23 p.m. A Brazos caller reported a window on their grandpa’s cabin was broken.

5:34 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said someone shot at him and broke the window on his car.

6:29 p.m. A Keith Street caller reported someone hit her son in the head and body with a board.

7:16 p.m. A Medanales caller said his mother is harassing him and causing problems for him and his girlfriend.

7:59 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller reported a shirtless man who is waving a handgun around, is beating up a woman and taking her purse.

10:24 p.m. A caller said there was a structure explosion in Hernandez and saw someone walking away from the fire.

11:37 p.m. A caller reported a buggy is racing up and down Ash Loop and East Pueblo Street and making lots of noise.

 

Blocking the Arroyo

Aug. 29

3:09 a.m. A caller said teens in an SUV were pointing guns at people at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

6:46 a.m. A Calle Chavez caller reported a shirtless man went to her window and started yelling through it because she and her boyfriend were having an argument.

8:38 a.m. A caller said someone broke into their property and they found duffel bags in the street.

9:40 a.m. A caller reported a truck was stopped at the Fairview Lane and North Riverside Drive intersection and the driver and passenger were passed out. People started honking at them and they woke up and drove off.

11 a.m. A Medanales caller said six people were removing appliances from her rental home.

11:01 a.m. A three- or four-car pile-up was reported on La Puebla Road and State Road 76.

11:22 a.m. A man kicked in the door of an abandoned home on Camino Santa Cruz, then fled.

11:23 a.m. A car hit a gas meter on Calle Redonda and fled.

11:55 a.m. An El Guique caller said he’s the mayordomo and is having issues with a man who is messing with the ditch. He wants an officer to assist.

1:23 p.m. A caller in Chimayó reported flooding because a man blocked the arroyo.

2:42 p.m. A Velarde caller said he reported his vehicle stolen a year ago after it ran out of gas on the side of the road. He found out it was towed and he wants a deputy to take it out of the system.

2:55 p.m. A caller reported he was approached by his 5-year-old son’s teacher at Fairview Elementary and told that the boy went missing but they found him later, in a bathroom across the school, with another student. Both children had their pants off when found. The caller is upset that it took the school more than 24 hours to tell him.

3:10 p.m. A BOLO was issued for an SUV. A man in the vehicle pulled over, yelled at a woman to get in and when she refused, he grabbed her by the hair and forced her into the SUV.

6 p.m. A tow truck driver was tailgating and running people off the road in Alcalde.

6:08 p.m. A Chimayó caller said she got home and her car won’t start. She thinks he ex was messing with it.

6:12 p.m. A man at 420 Emporia hit his head and stopped breathing. CPR was performed but the man died.

6:45 p.m. Two men were fighting at JC Auto, one of which was an employee. 

7:58 p.m. A caller reported a 2-year-old child at the YMCA seemed to be unattended. The child was picked up by a family member before an officer got there.

9:07 p.m. A man and woman were physically fighting on Calle Redonda.

9:16 p.m. Homeless people were camping out by the dumpsters at Wendy’s.

 

Popping Out Lenses

Aug. 30

12:39 a.m. An Abiquiú caller said his neighbors took his wallet and phone and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t leave their house after a party.

9:44 a.m. A caller reported an illegal burn in Medanales.

9:50 a.m. A caller said there’s a tent set up in her yard on Santo Niño Lane.

9:59 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a Styrofoam box with medication was left in front of the business.

12:43 p.m. A death notice was delivered to a home in Hernandez.

2:01 p.m. An El Guique caller said an unwanted woman is in her camper in her backyard.

2:05 p.m. A woman was cussing at Walgreens employees and refusing to leave.

2:28 p.m. People in a tent near the dumpsters at Kentucky Fried Chicken were smoking drugs and refusing to leave.

2:55 p.m. A caller reported a man had been lying on a bench near the Dixon Post Office since this morning.

2:55 p.m. A caller said she went to check on a woman an hour ago and she was unconscious and blue, however, she was able to wake the woman. The caller said the woman’s father called and said she is lying on the floor and won’t get up. The woman was taken to the hospital.

4:11 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a woman popped lenses out of multiple pairs of eyeglasses, then fled in a car.

5:23 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said two people are smoking drugs near the electrical boxes and bushes.

5:26 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller reported a group of people are fighting outside.

5:28 p.m. A Calle Chavez caller said the neighbor has multiple children and they’re screaming. A second caller said a man broke their window and is looking inside. She said her daughter was crying and the man got upset and broke the window.

7:31 p.m. A pursuit ensued after a hit-and-run near the Dreamcatcher.

8:53 p.m. An overdose was reported on Calle Vigil.

9:23 p.m. State Police assistance was requested because a man with a weapon was being disorderly at Nutrias Lake.

 

Tracking the Ex

Aug. 31

12:18 a.m. A Rio Arriba County Detention Center caller reported a possible jail riot. The jail was locked down and some inmates were armed with broom handles. Two inmates were injured and taken to the hospital.

1:34 a.m. A County Road 119 caller said she was bitten by a “mutt” dog.

4:03 a.m. A Milagro Village Mobile Home Park caller reported hearing noise in a home that’s supposed to be vacant.

8:54 a.m. A Dollar General in Hernandez caller said a woman on whom she has a restraining order is harassing her in the store.

9:40 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported two tool boxes were stolen from his yard overnight.

9:45 a.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said a woman is having some sort of mental episode.

10:50 a.m. A Velarde caller found her son passed out in his vehicle with drugs around him.

10:58 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a man on the balcony of a house threw something at her vehicle and damaged it.

11:41 a.m. A person was unloading trash in the empty lot on West Bond Street.

12:47 p.m. A Freddy’s caller reported someone stole power tools out of his vehicle.

4:12 p.m. A caller said there’s an RV parked in the vacant lot near the old Home Run Pizza. They have asked them to leave multiple times, but they refuse.

4:15 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a man halfway in the road with a cut on his face, near Española Elementary.

4:36 p.m. An Ohkay Casino security guard said a woman dropped her wallet and a man picked it up and left.

6:44 p.m. A man’s death was reported on West Shadowood Lane.

6:50 p.m. A Calle del Sol caller said a drunk woman is there and is hitting her son.

8:52 p.m. A caller thinks she has a tracker on her car after a recent bad break-up.

9:22 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said his brother came over twice, demanding money, then stabbed the door at least five times.

9:38 p.m. An El Llano Road caller reported her ex is outside, yelling and trying to get in through her window.

10:38 p.m. Two men on the sidewalk at Dairy Queen were refusing to leave.

11:01 p.m. A person parked at the rest stop in Lumberton had a campfire going.

 

Throwdown at Walmart

Sept. 1

4:46 a.m. A caller could see, through surveillance, a person sleeping under a blanket, in front of the door at TruNet Computer Technologies. The caller phoned again to say the man was starting to take off his clothes and he wanted him dispersed.

8:49 a.m. Someone pried the locks open on the front doors of the Dollar Tree in Española.

9:46 a.m. A Medanales caller said people were shooting in the area last night and their vehicle has bullet holes.

10:29 a.m. A man test drove a CarMax car and didn’t take it back. It was tracked to the Ohkay Casino, but was also tracked to El Llano. It’s believed the man threw the GPS out the window.

10:58 a.m. A caller found a dead mountain lion on the side of U.S. 64.

3:24 p.m. Homeless people were setting up tents in an empty field on North McCurdy Road.

4:16 p.m. A woman shot herself in the leg at Prairie Dog.

5:25 p.m. A man broke into a trailer behind the Western Winds Motel.

5:31 p.m. A caller said a family in a mini van is having an altercation in the Walmart parking lot. A woman was throwing things and yelling at another woman, whom she then began hitting.

7:26 p.m. A caller reported people were taking stuff from the backyard of an Ash Loop home.

7:55 p.m. An Angel Duran Drive caller said the neighbor went over and tried to steal a wallet.

8:05 p.m. A man was riding his motorized wheelchair very close to the road near CVS.

8:27 p.m. A man driving in Medanales heard what he thought was a gunshot in his direction.

8:58 p.m. A Medanales caller said her ex-husband was following her and slamming into her vehicle and he had a gun on him.

9:47 p.m. A Calle Jose de la Cruz caller went to her door and two people were hiding behind her trees.

11:10 p.m. An Alcalde caller heard her dog barking outside and thought she heard someone tell the dog to hush. 

 

Concealing Steak

Sept. 2

7:44 a.m. A Peace Keepers caller wanted a person in a tent behind the building to be dispersed.

7:55 a.m. Someone broke the gate at Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative over the weekend and possibly took copper.

10:30 a.m. A South McCurdy Road caller said a dog went onto their property overnight and killed their chickens.

10:47 a.m. A caller reported his compound bow was stolen and he didn’t realize it was gone until he got to his hunting spot.

12:05 p.m. A Vista del Norte Lane caller said a man is in their yard, getting into their vehicle.

1:46 p.m. A caller reported a homeless person was sleeping on a bench near the Villa del Norte Apartments.

2:11 p.m. A woman was bleeding from the head after another woman hit her with a rock at Century Bank.

2:38 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man concealed steak in his pants and walked out of the store.

3:01 p.m. A pursuit was initiated at Walmart after a possible drug deal.

3:59 p.m. A caller reported his vehicle was damaged by a man at Goodwill, after he hit the window.

5:14 p.m. A Santo Niño Lane caller said there’s been a tent at the back of her field for eight days.

5:26 p.m. A Chama caller wanted to file a report because $60,000 was taken from her account.

8:07 p.m. A caller said a woman is walking behind her with a dog and the woman threatened her after she told her she’d mace the dog if it came at her.

8:18 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported a generator was taken from his property.

 

Bomb Threat

Sept. 3

12:38 a.m. A Medanales caller said someone is in his house. He can hear them but can’t see them and he has a shotgun. The responding deputy said the man told them there might be someone living in the closet and it’s unclear how they got there. 

7:36 a.m. A Century Bank caller saw what looked like a man coming out of the bosque with a broomstick and tried to get into a vehicle.

8:52 a.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller said they were trying to throw the trash but there’s a man lying behind the dumpster.

10:05 a.m. A head-on collision was reported near the Family Dollar in Abiquiú.

10:10 a.m. A woman called the Rio Arriba County Detention Center and told them to evacuate because there’s a bomb outside.

12:11 p.m. A woman confronted a man who was driving recklessly on Martinez Lane and they began to argue.

12:21 p.m. A woman went to EPD to file a fraud report for a lost bank card.

2:28 p.m. A stolen car was recovered after is was hit on the FLOCK camera at Fairview Lane and North Paseo de Oñate.

3:04 p.m. A woman said she was raped last night and is suicidal.

4:21 p.m. A caller reported a man and woman were fighting each other in a vehicle parked on the side of the road in Medanales.

5:26 p.m. An Española Hospital caller lost her purse, wallet and phone and wanted to file a report. When an officer got there, hospital staff said the woman left, but left her high heels by the trash can.

6:09 p.m. An overdose was reported in Chamita. Narcan was administered.

6:39 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a bloody woman dressed in all black who was walking near the Las Lomas Apartments.

6:40 p.m. An Alcalde caller said the neighbor threatened their stepfather, accused him of knocking over a fence and pointed a gun at the sky.

7:02 p.m. A caller reported a woman jumped out of the passenger side of a pickup truck.

7:10 p.m. A caller said his iPad was stolen in Albuquerque and he tracked it to a home on Calle Vigil.

9:02 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man in Velarde who was throwing cones and trying to flag down cars.
