Screaming Woman Reports Grasshopper Attack

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Call Someone Else

Aug. 14

7:58 a.m. An SUV was stolen from East Pueblo Street.

8:29 a.m. The SUV from the previous call was found on La Joya Street.

10:05 a.m. A caller reported he’s stuck in a sand trap at Heron Lake, across from the ranger station. He didn’t want a tow truck and said all he needed was to be pulled out or given a shovel so he can dig himself out.

10:32 a.m. A woman was threatening suicide and refused to get in her husband’s car so he could take her to the hospital.

11:01 a.m. A man told a Chama Post Office employee that she wasn’t going to be happy until he slapped her in the (expletive) face.

11:13 a.m. A caller reported several homeless people are going up to a car parked near the Dollar Tree in Española.

12:34 p.m. A man was attacked by two dogs at the Dollar General in Española and needed medical attention.

12:48 p.m. A homeless man pulled a knife and threatened people on Las Vegas Street.

1:01 p.m. A caller said she found her stolen car, but it had been painted blue. She said it’s the same people who stole the car last time.

1:27 p.m. A man’s death was reported in Vallecitos.

2:26 p.m. A Santa Clara caller said a man stole the mail from his mailbox and was walking down the highway.

2:41 p.m. A caller reported his vehicle registration was stolen from the visor of his vehicle while at the Ohkay Travel Center.

6:28 p.m. A caller said a small child is unrestrained in a truck that’s traveling near the Family Dollar in Hernandez.

6:41 p.m. A schizophrenic man was having a mental health episode.

7:37 p.m. A caller was trying to pull over an aggressive driver on Los Alamos Highway and the Santa Clara Bridge after a confrontation.

7:54 p.m. A truck’s tires were slashed on Camino Miramontes.

8:52 p.m. A caller said her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend was harassing her at the Santa Claran Casino. When she told an officer at the casino, they yelled at her and told her to contact State Police, the Sheriff’s Office or Española Police.

9:28 p.m. A Highway 64 caller reported a bear and cubs were knocking down the neighbor’s fence.

10:29 p.m. A Chama caller said a man fell and had a cut on his finger that was down to the bone.

Running in traffic

Aug. 15

2 a.m. Two people were going into the Lowe’s Home Improvement garden center, taking several plants, and hiding them in a bush south of the store.

3:59 a.m. A man tried to pry open the door at the emergency room.

7:40 a.m. A shirtless man was yelling and cursing at people as they passed by the old Rio Grande SUN building on North Railroad Avenue. The man told an officer someone threw a firecracker at him and he got upset.

8:26 a.m. A Lumberton caller said someone in a truck with Colorado plates is poking around the property and banged on the door, trying to break in.

11:07 a.m. An overdose was reported on the bus bench near H&R Block. One dose of Narcan was administered.

11:34 a.m. A caller said a man is passed out in the O’Reilly’s parking lot and a group of people are surrounding him. 

11:37 a.m. A Pizza Hut caller reported a large gash on her hand after she accidentally cut herself on glass.

12:16 p.m. An officer went to Fairview Lane because of activities “consistent with narcotics dealing.”

1:56 p.m. A man on Hindi Lane was arrested on a warrant.

3:05 p.m. A parent at San Juan Elementary was falling asleep in their vehicle.

3:05 p.m. A caller said traffic was seriously backed up on South McCurdy Road and La Joya Street and the schools are breaking the law by impeding traffic.

3:12 p.m. A Garcia Tires caller reported a man took tires that do not belong to him.

4:17 p.m. A man said a woman is in violation of a restraining order since he tapped “like” on her Facebook story.

5:10 p.m. A man was running back and forth in and out of traffic in Hernandez.

5:16 p.m. A CYFD caller said a man was walking around the entrance and looks agitated.

5:33 p.m. An El Parasol caller reported a car is parked backward and when it pulled into the parking lot, it was screeching tires.

5:49 p.m. A man was walking near Red Hawk Court and South Riverside Drive, carrying a TV and cellphones.

6:08 p.m. A man saw a woman going through the window of a home on Calle Rivera and Gordon Lane.

7:49 p.m. A caller said her daughter’s boyfriend’s parents are harassing her and texting her for money because they paid for a water bill.

10:36 p.m. A woman in Chamita had a cut on her neck, which was initially reported as a gunshot.

False alarm

Aug. 16

7:46 a.m. A Velarde caller reported a man was on his property, harassing him and asking for work.

8:19 a.m. A Mykal’s Vapor caller said a man went in and stole his wife’s purse.

11:23 a.m. An Old Hospital Road caller reported a naked man is walking around an abandoned house.

11:41 a.m. A woman reported driving in Abiquiú and losing control of her car.

11:59 a.m. A person in a newer truck was dumping trash in a vacant lot across from Bellas Lane.

12:42 p.m. A caller said a dog is dead at a home on Fairview Lane and another has no water.

1:16 p.m. A Walgreens caller reported a repeat shoplifter took a Coke, ice cream and body wash.

1:20 p.m. A woman got pepper-sprayed in the face in Velarde.

1:23 p.m. An overdose was reported in Hernandez after a man did crack laced with fentanyl. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

1:29 p.m. A 3-year-old child was choking on a piece of candy at Mariscos la Playa.

1:41 p.m. A woman said her wallet was stolen from a shopping cart at Walmart yesterday.

2:08 p.m. Homeless people were setting up camp behind a building at Las Lomas Apartments.

3:05 p.m. A man in a truck yelled at a caller when they were driving. The caller said the man is parked behind them in the Dairy Queen drive-thru and is looking at them through a pair of binoculars.

4:39 p.m. A caller who reported their vehicle stolen in 2023 saw it parked on Calle Chueco and North Riverside Drive.

5:01 p.m. A caller said a man is behind Southwest Cannabis and is smoking drugs off a foil.

5:49 p.m. A caller reported their mother-in-law is calling law enforcement and saying they stole her vehicle.

7:03 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a family is trying to take their dirt bike and they have them blocked in.

7:40 p.m. A motorcycle accident was reported on State Road 30 in Santa Clara.

8:05 p.m. A woman’s death was reported on South Coronado Avenue.

9:51 p.m. An Alcalde caller could hear the neighbor screaming for help. When a deputy responded, the screaming neighbor said she was being attacked by a grasshopper.

10:42 p.m. A woman in Hernandez who was walking her dog overheard people in a truck saying they’re going to shoot her dog.

Attacked at Sonic

Aug. 17

1:03 a.m. A man was jumped by seven people at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

1:38 a.m. A Hernandez caller said a man shot her dad.

8:30 a.m. A man was arrested near Inn at the Delta for DWI.

9:23 a.m. A caller reported there’s a homeless camp by th chapel on State Road 76 and the people there are throwing trash all over.

10:46 a.m. A man said another man tried to run him off the road near Cook’s Mobile Home Park. They got into an altercation outside of their cars and the man grabbed his throat.

12:56 p.m. A caller reported a man was forcing a woman into the passenger side of a car at the Dollar General in Española.

3:23 p.m. One person was arrested for DWI near Chili’s.

3:45 p.m. An officer gave a possibly drunk person a ride home from Eagle Drive and N.M. Highway 68 in Ohkay Owingeh.

4:16 p.m. A caller saw a Facebook Marketplace listing for a possibly stolen motorcycle.

5:48 p.m. An overdose was reported behind the Rue 21 building. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

9:51 p.m. A caller said her BMW was stolen two days ago and her credit cards were in it. One of her credit cards was used at Speedway.

10:46 p.m. A Fairview Sonic caller reported a man is attacking them with a knife.

11:28 p.m. A caller found a threatening note that said, “I know what you did weenie, die.”

11:45 p.m. A Fish Pond Lane caller said their son is throwing food at the windows and destroying things.

Talking

to Spirits

Aug. 18

12:12 a.m. A Chimayó caller reported he’s been hearing spirits and ghosts telling them where he’s buried.

12:55 a.m. A vehicle hit power lines in Chimayó.

8:04 a.m. A North Riverside Drive caller said the top off his fence was broken and they tried to steal things from his yard.

10:44 a.m. A man went to a home on Calle del Rio and was screaming for help and trying to get in.

12:39 a.m. A Hudson Lane caller reported a man assaulted her boyfriend and punched him in the face.

12:45 p.m. An Española Valley High School student got into an altercation with a security guard.

12:46 p.m. A man reported his girlfriend was punched in the face by a man who got in her vehicle and took off.

3:07 p.m. An overdose was reported at the San Pedro Shell.

3:09 p.m. An overdose was reported on Indian Way. Two doses of Narcan were administered but the man died.

4:25 p.m. A caller said her building’s windows are broken out.

7:25 p.m. A drunk man in a car at Lowe’s Home Improvement had a 9mm handgun and was looking for a homeless man.

10:11 p.m. A woman passing by on El Guique Road heard about seven gunshots and heard yelling.

Just Go to Sleep

Aug. 19

12:38 a.m. A caller said one of her friends is there and wants money from her, but she doesn’t want to let him in.

1:03 a.m. An El Rito caller reported her daughter said a man is choking her and broke her phone. The call was transferred to New Mexico State Police because of a conflict of interest.

2:59 a.m. Several young adults were partying and drinking in the Hacienda Home Center parking lot.

5:42 a.m. The All State building was broken into.

12:17 p.m. A Lamb Street caller left their vehicle door unlocked and sometime overnight, their gun was stolen from the vehicle.

1:19 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller said a man is threatening employees with a knife.

1:34 p.m. An overdose was reported at the Park and Ride bus shelter. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

4:19 p.m. A Hernandez caller said her boyfriend was kicking her vehicle. She kept telling him to go to sleep.

5:51 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported there are guys in the area trying to steal stuff from his yard and they are selling drugs.

7:25 p.m. A Walmart caller said a drunk woman tried to leave with two 12-packs, but they got them back.

Aug. 20

1:38 a.m. A Hernandez caller reported her boyfriend is hitting her and has a knife.

2:21 a.m. A man on Angel Duran Drive was unconscious. The reporting officer said it appeared to be an overdose.

10:02 a.m. A Velarde caller said a two-month-old baby was choking after being given medicine.

10:24 a.m. A caller reported her grandson stole her wallet with $300 and all her cards in it.

10:35 a.m. A BOLO was issued for a utility truck that was stolen out of Los Alamos.

3:46 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle near Murphy’s Express because the driver’s behavior was consistent with drug dealing. Meth was found in the vehicle.

4:21 p.m. A Lamb Street caller wanted to file a report for a stolen gun. His wife tried to do it, but she was told the gun owner needs to file the report.

4:24 p.m. A homeless man was bothering Center Market customers for money and refusing to leave.

5:05 p.m. An overdose was reported on Esparza Lane. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

8:08 p.m. A man was verbally and physically threatening Dandy’s Burgers employees.

8:32 p.m. A caller said a car was following her while she was walking around last night.

9:25 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported the neighbors are harassing her and throwing nails onto her driveway.

9:51 p.m. Two drivers were circling each other and cussing at each other near Lowe’s Home Improvement.

10:32 p.m. A Calle Chavez caller said her ex is scratching and biting her.
