The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  

Too Sleepy to Eat

Oct. 23

6:28 a.m. A Speedway caller reported people in a car are smoking drugs.

7:22 a.m. Three people at Walmart were refusing to leave. One man was harassing customers and verbally threatening an employee.

8:36 a.m. A vehicle went off the roadway in Medanales and into the trees.

10:57 a.m. A Subway caller requested a welfare check on a man who was eating at a table and passed out.

1:47 p.m. A caller said two women were trespassing on the neighbor’s property behind the Fairview Post Office.

2:42 p.m. A U.S. Highway 64 caller reported the locks to their property was cut and a welder was taken.

5:31 p.m. A caller said a person in an SUV on Camino de Roberto and South McCurdy Road was blowing into an ignition interlock for another person.

6:48 p.m. An El Rey Liquors caller requested a welfare check on a homeless man who was passed out at the dumpster.

9:37 p.m. A Speedway caller said a customer was harassing her because she wouldn’t let him use the restroom before she closed the store.

 

Drinking and Road Raging?

Oct. 24

6:44 a.m. A homeless person started a fire near Wendy’s and was issued a trespassing warning.

7:46 a.m. A man was taken to the hospital after an officer conducted a welfare check on him because he was slumped over in a truck at Speedway.

8:02 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man in a sleeping bag at the RTD shelter near Century Bank.

8:07 a.m. A caller said there’s a small vehicle off the roadway, in the bushes on State Road 96 in Abiquiú. The airbags were deployed and there was damage to the vehicle.

10:48 a.m. A man was at a yard sale when a man approached him and hit him in the eye, then broke the mirror on his vehicle.

12:52 p.m. A caller reported a man was carrying a rifle near Oliver’s General Store, then walked into a known drug house.

12:56 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said two chainsaws were removed from his vehicle.

1 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman in a car stopped at the traffic light by Walmart. The caller said the woman was passed out with her head down.

2:45 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller was working in their yard and found dirt that appears to be the spot where someone is buried; there was a sign that said “rest in peace.”

4:07 p.m. A caller said their aunt went to check on their sister and when she walked in, the woman was lying on the floor and said “why did you wake me? Just leave me here to die.” The woman refused to go to the door when a deputy responded, spoke to him through the window and refused any medical attention.

4:57 p.m. An overdose was reported in Cordova. Three doses of Narcan were administered.

6:58 p.m. A caller said a driver pushed him off the road, brake-checked him, then threw a beer can at him before driving off toward Abiquiú.

8:57 p.m. An Inn at the Delta caller reported a man is sitting outside the flower shop and refusing to leave because he is lost. He asked the caller to phone 911.

9:01 p.m. A vehicle rolled into a ditch in Hernandez.

9:21 p.m. A Velarde caller said her husband hit her in the head yesterday.

9:22 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller reported a homeless man has been banned and told to leave, but he’s refusing.

11:28 p.m. A man’s death was reported in Lindrith.

11:34 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller said a man is fighting the employees because they kicked him out and he’s trying to get back in the building.

Shoplifting Turns Violent

Oct. 25

2:40 a.m. A caller reported a man in a Jeep was hitting his female passenger and swerving near 420 Emporia.

6:53 a.m. A vehicle rollover was reported in Cordova.

9:41 a.m. A Walgreens employee said a shoplifter hit her in the head and she’s bleeding.

10:26 a.m. An elderly man was dropped off at the Rio Chama Chevron and was sitting at a table. A deputy got him a room for the night and took him to the Abiquiú Inn.

11:19 a.m. A caller reported a man in Hernandez was chasing a shirtless man. They were fighting in the middle of the road.

12:52 p.m. A warehouse on Camino Habitat was broken into and tools were taken.

1:19 p.m. A caller wanted a homeless man removed from the dumpster at Starbucks.

2:22 p.m. A caller said the father of her children showed up and tried to stab her with a knife, so she tased him.

6:56 p.m. An overdose was reported in Alcalde. Two doses of Narcan were administered.

7:59 p.m. An older woman was reportedly passed out in the ballroom of the Ohkay Casino.

8:51 p.m. Three people were refusing to leave the area of Little Caesar’s and courtesy rounds were requested.

9:38 p.m. A Park Street caller said a man flashed a gun at her sister-in-law and hit the windows of her vehicle.

 

No Soda for Him

Oct. 26

3:10 a.m. A house fire was reported on Ash Loop.

6:29 a.m. A man in a truck at the Santa Claran gas station was passed out behind the wheel with a pistol in his lap. The responding officer said the man fell asleep while waiting for the store to open.

7:01 a.m. A Santa Clara police officer requested assistance because two people in a car were passed out at Guadalupe Credit Union and had drug paraphernalia.

7:22 a.m. A man overdoses in Alcalde. Narcan was administered.

9:37 a.m. A Forest Road 318 caller wanted to speak with deputies because he had hunters on his property who were pointing guns at him.

9:51 a.m. A Tierra Amarilla caller saw a vehicle off the roadway with the doors open and no one inside.

1:59 p.m. A 16-year-old Truchas caller said she feels like she’s dying after taking a hit of a THC cartridge.

3:23 p.m. A Dollar General caller reported a man in the store is aggravated with the cashier because he wanted to buy a soda, but she wouldn’t let him since he’s trespassed.

4:04 p.m. A Chama caller said her ex called and told her to pick up her belongings, then tried to hit her with a crowbar and is still trying to hit her.

5:59 p.m. A Calle del Rancho caller reported a man is drunk and at his house. He said he’s vulgar and trying to fight him.

6:23 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man in front of the store might be shooting up and is dancing around. They want him removed.

7:14 p.m. A caller reported her boyfriend pull her hair.

7:54 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller said a man is drunk and refusing to leave.

11:33 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a pregnant woman at Walmart that was beat up in the parking lot.

11:55 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported his girlfriend and her mother are tearing up his house and searching it for her phone.

 

Get in the House

Oct. 27

12:10 a.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller said her daughter was hit in the face and is bleeding.

2:02 a.m. A caller reported a motorcyclist passed her on the shoulder.

5:18 a.m. An overdose was reported at Las Lomas Apartments. CPR was performed and Narcan was administered but the woman died.

9:43 a.m. A caller requested that homeless people be dispersed from in front of Little Caesar’s because they are trying to fight each other.

11:08 a.m. A woman dropped off a purse she found at Valley Estates.

11:32 a.m. A vehicle was stolen from a person’s property in Mesa de Poleo and the gate was damaged.

11:52 a.m. Two women were fighting at a Walmart checkout.

12:11 p.m. An Indian Way caller reported her ex went to her house and stole her gun.

1:01 p.m. An overdose was reported at Española Pathways Shelter. Narcan was administered.

1:27 p.m. An Old Hospital Road caller said her son is acting up.

1:32 p.m. A caller reported her daughter was punched in the face at school.

1:33 p.m. A caller said a homeless person is setting up camp on Silkey Road and Gladys Lane.

4:45 p.m. A Walmart employee reported a woman’s card was declined and she’s threatening to walk out of the store with her basket. The woman said her bank statement shows she was charged twice Walmart employees made her stay there for 30 minutes.

5:41 p.m. A Roadrunner Lane caller said the neighbors keep damaging the road by digging it up and now the driveway is messed up.

10:39 p.m. An East Pueblo Street caller reported the neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter is outside and won’t go inside. The girl’s mother called and said the daughter is refusing to go in the house and is texting people on her school tablet.

11:47 p.m. A Calle Romero caller said her 13-year-old sister is hitting their dad.

 

Not Vandalism, Just Dust

Oct. 28

11:03 a.m. A Burger King caller reported a homeless person is going through the trash and looking into cars.

11:39 a.m. A man went onto the Española Animal Shelter property and told an employee that he knows what they drive.

Noon A report was taken at Española Valley High School for minors in possession.

12:11 p.m. A Wells Fargo bank caller said people in a vehicle were reversing and almost hit her. She honked and the man got out of his vehicle and punched her vehicle.

12:38 p.m. A Chama caller reported his neighbor took money from the HOA. He also pulled up next to the caller at the grocery store and tried to fight him.

1:10 p.m. A fence and lock were cut near at the metal trade building at Northern New Mexico College.

1:25 p.m. A Pinch Penny laundromat caller said there are the crackheads behind the building.

3:33 p.m. A Corlett Road caller reported a man is outside, hitting a woman.

5:45 p.m. A State Road 76 in Española caller reported the neighbor called to say someone is breaking into her house.

5:51 p.m. A caller in Abiquiú hit a cow on his motorcycle.

8:32 p.m. A Medanales caller said a car was blocking the entrance to her home. She told the driver to move and was standing near the car, when the car moved forward, she fell in the ditch and the car left.

10:03 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who was being chased by her boyfriend at Walmart.

 

Just Park it

Oct. 29

2:01 a.m. An overdose was reported in Lyden. Two doses or Narcan were administered.

5:44 a.m. A man at Murphy’s Express was asked to leave and threw rocks at an employee.

8:17 a.m. A Washington Federal employee said a man had a tent set up in their drive-thru.

9:08 a.m. A State Road 369 caller reported metal was taken from their property.

9:53 a.m. A woman’s death was reported on Vista del Valle.

10:29 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a vehicle parked halfway in the road near Tortas Rainbow. A second caller said a man was slumped over in the vehicle.

11:04 a.m. An officer responded to the Española Middle School for minors in possession.

1:29 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller received a call from a man who said he was with the cartel and their daughter was involved in a severe car crash and he had her. A crying woman got on the line. The caller said they do not have a daughter.

12:58 p.m. A caller reported several homeless people are in the dumpsters at the Dollar General in Española and are refusing to leave.

1:07 p.m. A Pinch Penny caller said several homeless people are behind the building and setting up camp.

3:27 p.m. An 8-year-old Hernandez Elementary student told a teacher they were going to die.

4:32 p.m. A man in a car at the Dollar General in Hernandez had a 12-pack under his driver’s seat.

4:32 p.m. A man in a muscle shirt was waving a nunchuck and screaming in the Pinch Penny parking lot.

5:04 p.m. A woman went to RASO to report that a woman keeps going to her place of employment and threatening her. She is also sending text messages saying she’ll catch her outside of work.

7:05 p.m. A T-Mobile caller said women in a car are there to fight her once she gets off work.

7:51 p.m. A caller reported an employee is being threatened.

11:14 p.m. A caller said a vehicle is driving up and down North McCurdy road and Fairview Lane and it has loud exhaust and is backfiring. The caller wants officers to tell the driver to park it.
