(SUNfoto by George Morse) This century plant began blooming in June in Stella Roybal’s yard on Lower San Pedro Road. Roybal said it was planted 25 years ago. The century plant is a member of the agave family and only blooms once in its lifetime. The plant then dies, but new plants will propagate from the base of the old plant. Roybal, 85, said she was glad she got to see the plant bloom in her lifetime.
