A Chimayó man is in critical condition after driving into a Chimayó apple orchard and rolling his car, according to State Police.
Paul Trujillo, 50, drove his Pontiac Grand Prix off of State Road 76 around mile marker nine at about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 14, running into an apple orchard and tearing the roof off the car as it rolled, according to Capt. Daniel Lovato and Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson. Trujillo was entrapped in the car and had to be extracted from it, Lovato said.
Trujillo was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital where he was still in critical condition as of Tuesday, Lovato and Hospital staff said.
A syringe was found in Trujillo’s car, leading police to request his blood be drawn for drug testing, Lovato said. The results of that testing were not released by Tuesday.
The exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined since there were neither witnesses to nor other individuals involved in the accident, according to police.
