This letter is in response to the letter, “Leaders Must Be Examples,” (Rio Grande SUN, Sept. 17, page A7) questioning my position as a public official and an evangelical.
Growing up in a Christian home, as a youth, I made a decision to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I have since graduated from high school and college; I am a husband and dad, a staff member for the Española School District, an ordained associate pastor at the Rock Church, Española, and I am an elected Rio Arriba County commissioner.
I have dedicated my life to helping others and community service. I am committed to living my Christian faith, while fulfilling my professional and public office responsibilities. With God’s help, I have lived the Christian values of honesty, integrity, unity and service. Aren’t those qualities we should want in every public official?
While serving as Commissioner, I have not made my faith a focus. Others have made my faith a focus. My focus is on working for the people of Rio Arriba County. I have done that and will continue.
If my constituents would like to know my County accomplishments, express concerns or offer ideas, please feel free and contact me.
James J. Martinez
Rio Arriba County Commissioner
