An Alcalde couple traveling home from Peñasco Sunday was killed when their motorcycle veered off an embankment on State Road 75 east of Dixon, according to police.
Chris and Connie Reynolds, 41 and 38, are survived by their two young children ages 9 and 11, Taos County Sheriff’s Lt. Rick Medina said.
The crash occurred on a steep, winding curve less than half a mile from the Taos-Rio Arriba County line. The couple’s motorcycle landed at the bottom of a small canyon about 125 feet below the road. Medina said toxicology results will determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, and lead investigator Taos County Sheriff’s deputy Rachel Weber is investigating other possible factors, such as excessive speed. The area received scattered storms Sunday evening, Medina said.
“If they were traveling at night, it’s going to be dark,” Medina said. “If he was going a little too fast for that curve, he might have just slid over to the left. But we don’t see any signs of him losing control until he hits the white edge line on the opposite side of the road.”
Medina said it is unclear exactly when the crash occurred. The Sheriff’s Department received a call about the crash scene Monday morning, and the couple had last been seen Sunday around 5:30 p.m., in Peñasco, he said. Neither victim was wearing a helmet, Medina said.
